While conducting traffic surveillance in connection with a 01/30 fatal pedestrian hit and run collision, a Glen Rock PD patrol supervisor and officer, spotted a vehicle matching the description of one being sought in connection with the horrific event driving right past the crash site early this morning.
The vehicle’s driver, David Romero from Paterson, immediately complied with officers’ commands to pull over one (1) block north of the crash site. Following the officers’ visual inspection the damaged vehicle, and a brief conversation with the driver, it was decided to transport the driver to Glen Rock PD headquarters for questioning. Personnel from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office were notified and responded shortly thereafter to assume command of the vehicle inspection/impounding and suspect interrogation.
Romero was charged with fleeing a fatal accident, endangering an injured victim, and several other charges per Bergen County Prosecutors Fatal Accident Investigation Unit.
The victim was Angela Sanzari, 83, of Hawthorne.
