The Glen Rock High School wrestling team continues to enjoy a fine season, having won six consecutive matches heading into Friday’s home meeting with Cresskill at the GRHS Gym, beginning at 6 p.m.
The Panthers’ most recent win was a 69-6 road victory over an overmatched Wood Ridge team on Wednesday. That followed home wins last week over Becton Regional and Parsippany. Glen Rock’s record now stands at 11-4 in dual meets, and as the cutoff to determine which teams make the state playoff tournament approaches this weekend, the team is currently holding the sixth (of eight) seeds in the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 bracket. Glen Rock, which made the playoffs last year as the No. 8 seed, will follow Friday’s meet with a quad meet on Saturday at Elmwood Park High School against Elmwood Park, New Milford and Saddle Brook.
Friday’s match against Cresskill should provide a strong test for the Panthers, as the visiting Cougars are a strong dual meet team, having posted an 11-7 record this season. Glen Rock beat Cresskill 31-30 last season, winning three of the last four matches to pull off the comeback victory.
Saturday’s quad will be highlighted by the matchup against Saddle Brook, with whom Glen Rock shared a co-op program for more than a decade until the program was dissolved and the schools went their separate ways in 2015. The current seniors were freshmen when the teams last wrestled together. The teams wrestled against each other last year in a quad meet, with Saddle Brook winning, 33-30. This year’s Saddle Brook team is 10-2 in dual meets.
