This morning, the Glen Rock Police Department and the Glen Rock Fire Department were dispatched to Hamilton School for a report of an activated fire alarm.
When officers arrived, they found that students and school staff had been safely evacuated from the school. The fire was a minor electrical fire by a light fixture in a hallway of the school. Officers extinguished the fire with fire extinguishers. The Glen Rock Fire Department, along with several mutual aid fire departments, responded to the scene and took control of the incident.
School officials, with the help of the Glen Rock Police Department, moved and sheltered all Hamilton School students and staff at Acadamy of our Lady. There were no reported injuries during the event. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by fire officials and the Glen Rock Police Department Detective Bureau.
Due to the fire, The School District is having a 12:30 dismissal for Hamilton Students. This dismissal will be conducted at Acadamy of our Lady.
Per Dr. Charleston, “I understand that this may be a stressful event for parents and students alike. I want to assure you that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We will continue to work with the fire department to investigate the cause of the fire and to ensure that our school building is safe for students to return to tomorrow.”
As of this evening, Dr Charles announced, “At this time, the building is being cleaned by the restoration company, our fire alarm system is being tested, and the light fixture has had the appropriate safety measures performed. The building will be safe and ready for us to return to classes tomorrow for a full day of school. Before and aftercare at Hamilton will operate as normal. “
