Glen Rock’s Office of Curriculum and Instruction will be presenting a math and language arts literacy workshops for parents with students enrolled in the district’s elementary schools. The Office of Curriculum and Instruction welcomes parents/guardians with students in grades K-5 to attend one or both of the following workshops to learn about district’s math and literacy programs and how to support students at home. About the presenters:
Language Arts Literacy: Gravity Goldberg is an educational consultant, author and founder of Gravity Goldberg, LLC. She specializes in literacy, special education, curriculum, assessment, and learning with technology. Dr. Goldberg’s most recent books, What Do I Teach Readers Tomorrow? Fiction & Nonfiction (Corwin) and Mindsets & Moves: Strategies That Help Readers Take Charge (Corwin) have been met with great enthusiasm. They have allowed many teachers to make shifts in their practice creating positive impacts for their students. Gravity is co-author of the book, Conferring With Readers: Supporting Each Student’s Growth and Independence (Heinemann). These books show Gravity’s commitment to creating learning environments that are responsive and supportive of students, teachers and leaders alike.
Dr. Goldberg studied at Boston College and Teachers College, Columbia University, pursuing a doctorate in education in Curriculum and Teaching. Her focus on educational policy, school reform, and literacy education still guide her work to this day. She is certified in Elementary Education, Special Education, and as a Reading Specialist (K-12). Gravity is a certified yoga teacher which allows her to bring elements of yoga to students and teachers, helping them find balance and focus in their work and lives.
Math: Jacqueline Fox holds a Bachelor of Science from Juniata College and a Masters of Education from Arcadia University. She taught in Habtoro-Horsham School District in Montgomery County, PA, as well as Wilkinsburg School District and Riverview School District, both in Allegheny County, PA. For the past 18 years, she has worked as an independent education consultant for McGraw-Hill/Everyday Mathematics. Not only a classroom teacher of Everyday Math, Jackie currently works in six different school districts in Pennsylvania and New Jersey as a math coach, working directly in the classrooms, coaching teachers as they implement and assess the effectiveness of Everyday Mathematics with their students. Additionally, she develops and administers in-service workshops for teachers, administrators and parents.
