During the period between April 10, 2023, through April 16, 2023, members of the GRPD handled 378 calls for service, the highlights of which included:

04-10-2023

1:31 PM – Patrols were dispatched to a disturbance onboard an NJ Transit bus at the Harding Plaza bus station.  Upon arrival, officers found a 29-year-old Hawthorne woman in a highly intoxicated state, covered with blood, with apparent self-inflicted knife wounds on her arms.  The woman, who was intoxicated to the point that she could not care for herself, was transported by ambulance to Bergen New Bridge Medical Center for detox and medical care. 

04-11-2023

5:55 PM – A Chadwick Place resident reported that while they were on vacation their unlocked BMW X7, was entered while parked in their driveway, and rummaged through.  At the time of the report, the resident did not feel that anything had been taken.  This reportedly occurred sometime between March 31st and April 10th.  During this same period of time, another unlocked vehicle was reported to have been entered and rummaged through on Chadwick Place and a vehicle was stolen from a residence on Ackerman Avenue.  

The complainant will be reviewing their home surveillance video system to determine if any video footage captured the incident when it occurred. 

04-12-2023

2:42 PM – Patrols, along with Firefighters, were dispatched to a Beech Road residence in response to a reported structure fire.  Upon arrival, officers found that a detached garage had caught fire and the resident was attempting to extinguish it with a garden hose. After Firefighters fully extinguished the fire, it was determined that the cause was due to embers from an outdoor fire pit that had been placed in a bucket directly next to the garage.  Members of the Fair Lawn and Hawthorne Fire Departments assisted. 

04-12-2023

12:28 PM – The manager of Bottle King Liquors on Prospect Street reported shoplifting that had just occurred.  The actor, a male subject in their 50s who was captured on video surveillance footage, had taken 3 bottles of liquor valued at a total of $165 and left the store without paying.  The actor then left the area in a Nissan Sentra prior to the police being contacted. 

The video images have been forwarded to the Detective Bureau for further investigation. 

04-14-2023

6:10 PM – The owner of a 2016 white Ford Fiesta reported that their vehicle was struck by a hit and run vehicle while parked on Jerome Avenue near Ackerman Avenue.  This reportedly occurred sometime between 4 PM and the time of the report.  The damage was consistent with the vehicle having been sideswiped.  Anyone who may have witnessed this occurrence, and can identify the hit-and-run vehicle, is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.

04-15-2023

A 2020 BMW X4 stolen on April 8^th from a residence on the 500 block of Ackerman Avenue was recovered by the Newark Police Department.  The vehicle had been involved in two motor vehicle accidents and was extensively damaged. Personal property recovered inside the vehicle was returned to the owner.

11:26 PM – Patrols were dispatched to Leigh Terrace in response to a reported residential burglary.  Upon arrival, officers found that entry had been forced by shattering the window to a rear glass sliding door.  The kitchen, living room, and second-floor bedroom had been ransacked.  It appeared that the resident’s home video surveillance system had been disabled just prior to 10 PM.  

Crime scene investigators from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department BCI responded and processed the scene. The Glen Rock Police Department Detective Bureau is currently investigating in cooperation with Fair Lawn Detectives who are investigating a similar burglary that occurred on an adjacent street during the same timeframe. 

Due to the state of disarray in the home, the resident was not immediately able to determine what was taken.  An inventory is pending.
