During the period between February 27, 2023, through March 5, 2023, members of the GRPD handled 304 calls for service, the highlights of which included:
02-27-2023
9:31 AM – The owner of a Ridgewood based landscaping company reported damages to three company trucks that were parked over the weekend in a commercial lot on the 400 block of Grove Street. The damages consisted of broken windows, a headlight, and side view mirror. This matter is believed to be associated with an unlawful entry into a resident’s vehicle, in an adjacent lot, which had been reported on February 25th.
Two juvenile suspects had been identified at the time of the previous report. The matter has been referred to the juvenile officer for follow-up. Due to New Jersey’s strict juvenile confidentiality laws, no further information may be publicly disclosed.

1:58 PM – A Glen Rock resident reported that they had been defrauded out of $25,000 in cash. They recounted having difficulty with an in-person transaction at their bank, followed by a pop-up message on their home computer directing them to contact Apple/Microsoft due to an issue with their computer. They called the number provided and spoke with a purported representative who informed them that it would cost $25,000 to resolve the issue.
Following the instructions provided, the resident withdrew $25,000 in cash from their bank, wrapped it in aluminum foil, then placed it in a gift-wrapped shoe box, leaving it on their front porch to be picked up. A driver picked up the box on the morning of the report and told them that they would be contacted within 10 minutes with a resolution to the computer issue. When this did not happen the resident realized that they had been scammed.
A Detective has been assigned to investigate this matter.
03-03-2023
5:25 PM – A Highland Road resident reported that an Amazon package, valued at $240, was taken from their front porch. The resident’s home video surveillance system captured images of a subject taking the package at 1:45 PM on March 2nd. The individual was dressed in dark clothing, a winter hat, and white sneakers. The video images were forwarded to the Detective Bureau for review.
03-04-2023
12:40 PM – A resident of Rock Road, near Lincoln Avenue, reported that a package had been taken from near their front door. It was recounted that the package, valued at $40, was delivered on March 3rd. When the resident received the package delivery notification, they were unable to locate it. Thinking it may have mistakenly been delivered to a neighbor, the resident went to look for it and found the package laying on the sidewalk. It had been opened and the contents removed.
