After getting last weekend off as their bye week, the Glen Rock High School football team returns to action this weekend when they visit Lodi on Saturday. It will be Homecoming Day for Lodi, and the kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
Glen Rock coach Jim Kurz said his team got back to work as usual this week after having a lighter practice schedule last week. Kurz said Lodi is “a good, dangerous team. They are coming off a hard-fought game against (undefeated defending state champions) Rutherford. They hung with them all game until Rutherford pulled away in the fourth quarter. They have good athletes and they will be ready to go.’’
Lodi is 3-3 on the season, having beaten Manchester, Palisades Park and Becton and losing to Rutherford, to Garfield in their season opener (by the score of 6-5), and to Waldwick-Midland Park (31-28). Last season, Glen Rock defeated Lodi, 23-20, on a last-minute touchdown run by senior captain Matt Sapoff on Glen Rock’s Homecoming Day.
The Panthers (4-1) will lean on their playmakers, Ashton Dalessio, who leads the team with seven touchdowns, and quarterback Greg Schlett, who threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns in Glen Rock’s last game, the 40-14 victory over Manchester on Sept. 29. Senior receiver Aedan Clark, who broke out with seven catches for 115 yards and three touchdowns in the Manchester game, will look to build on that performance.
