At approximately 10:31 an NJ Transit train #45 which departed Hoboken at 9:48 AM, reported striking and fatally killing a woman on the Bergen Line Rail Road Tracks near the Harristown Road grade crossing.
The Glen Rock Police Department was dispatched to assist the NJ Transit Police. Upon arrival, they located the female victim in a lifeless state. Valley Hospital Paramedics were called in and pronounced the woman dead.
Per Chief Ackermann, “As this fatality occurred within NJ Transit’s jurisdiction the Transit Police is the lead investigative agency, the GRPD provided support and assistance on the scene. ” The identity of the victim will not be released until the family has been notified.
The RR Crossing was reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic at 2 PM.
