At the public meeting of the Mayor and Council at 7 PM on Wednesday November 29th, the GRPD will be promoting an historic number of officers. Two Lieutenants and five Sergeants! The rank of Captain is not being filled at this time creating a flattened table of organization and adjusting resources so we will be able better utilize our personnel. The promotional list is attached.
Each candidate who was promoted passed a comprehensive exam given by the New Jersey State Associations of Chiefs of Police and scored between 86% to 97% which is certainly a credit to this department. Each of the passing candidates were then interviewed by the Public Safety Committee who made the final recommendations to the Mayor and Council.
The GRPD has been operating without a full command and supervision staff for well over a year, with these promotions we are finally closing the loop on a long process to rebuild our force. Increased training and professional development will also be a key factor with these promotions and our new structure.
Chief Dean Ackermann stated, “I wish to thank every member of service who participated in the promotional process. The effort extended by each candidate is a true credit to this agency.”
As authorized by Public Safety Chair Skip Huisking, Chief Dean Ackermann commented, “it is my pleasure to announce the following promotions which will take place at the Public Meeting of the Mayor and Council on Wednesday November 29th, 2017 at 8PM.”
