On November 27th, 2017 P.O. James Donnelly arrested Jose L. Estrada age 41 of Paterson for armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. This following a failed shoplifting attempt which left a 28-year-old employee of the Super Fresh Market on Lincoln Avenue with a knife wound.
Per Chief Dean Ackermann, The incident began at approximately 3:45 PM when two store employees confronted Mr. Estrada who was attempting to shoplift 8 bottles of vodka valued at $287. During the confrontation, the actor became combative and produced a 7-inch knife, which was recovered by the responding officers. A physical altercation ensued during which the employee was cut with the knife. The injured employee and his manager were able to subdue Mr. Estrada and hold him until P.O. Donnelly arrived along with Sgt. Frank Riggio and P.O. Annamarie Mattina.
Det. Mike Trover was able to recover video surveillance footage of the incident depicting events as they were described by the store employees.
Both store employees were treated on scene by EMT’s from the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, however, declined transport to the hospital.
Mr. Estrada was medically cleared at New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, following which he was processed at Glen Rock Police HQ and transported to the Bergen County Jail pending an appearance in Superior Court Central Judicial Processing.
