During the period between February 13th 2017 and February 19th 2017 members of the GRPD handled 193 calls for service, the highlights of which included:
02-13-2017
3:33 PM – A Chadwick Place resident reported that a fraudulent charge in the amount of $272.21 had been made on her American Express card. The charge occurred out of state and has been brought to the attention of the credit card company. The detective bureau is in the process of reviewing this matter.
02-14-2017
6:22 PM – Sgt. Chris Mc Inerney responded to a report of a bicyclist who had been struck by a motor vehicle at Rock Road and Main Street. The investigation found that the bicyclist, a 37-year-old Hawthorne man, was in the crosswalk when a vehicle struck him causing him to land on the windshield. According to the victim and a witness, the vehicle stopped momentarily and then fled the area onto Rodney Street. The only description they were able to provide was a silver vehicle, possibly a Nissan Altima. The victim declined medical attention on scene.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident and may be able to provide more detailed information is asked to contact Sgt. Mc Inerney at (201) 670-3941 Ext. 8121 or [email protected]. As of this time no further witnesses or evidence has been developed.

10:02 AM – A Glen Avenue resident reported that she and her husband have been the victim of identity theft. They discovered a fraudulent credit account opened in her husband’s name and that of an unknown third party. A change of address was filed with both the US Postal Service as well as their bank without their knowledge. There was also an unsuccessful attempt to take a loan in their names through an on line transaction believed to have originated from Kingston, Jamaica. The matter has been referred to the detective bureau for investigation.

2:15 PM – Officers Annamarie Mattina, Bryan Scott and James Mc Gill were dispatched to the area of Prospect Street stores to investigate a report of a suspicious male in the rear parking lot. The man had been there for an extended period of time causing concern to both merchants and shoppers. With information provided by a concerned citizen, officers were able to locate the suspect, a 34-year-old homeless man, sleeping in a vehicle. The man was found to be in possession of $117 which he admitted to taking from a lost wallet belonging to a Glen Rock woman. P.O. Scott was able to recover the wallet in a nearby garbage can. The money and the wallet were returned to the owner who declined to further pursue the matter.
At the request of the business owners the homeless man was told to leave the parking lot and that he is not welcome to return in the future.

11:30 AM – A concerned citizen called 9-1-1 reporting a woman sitting on the curb at Lincoln Avenue and Berry Place who appeared to be in distress. Upon arrival officers found a 40-year-old Hawthorne woman in a highly intoxicated state who was unable to stand without falling over. The woman, who was visibly distraught and unable to care for herself, was transported by ambulance to Bergen Regional Medical Center.
