Blood donation is a community responsibility. While you’re reading this, a local area patient needs blood.
Gary Stevens TaeKwonDo sponsors and hosts the Glen Rock semi annual Community Blood Drive twice a year. The next one is on July 10th, 2016 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at Gary Stevens TaeKwonDo, 175 Rock Rd, Glen Rock NJ
Gary has been hosting the Blood Drive here in Glen Rock for about three years – twice a year. He said the blood drive events are hosted in July after the 4th and around Thanksgiving because those are the times when the blood supply usually runs low.
BTN asked Gary why he hosts the blood drive. He responded:
“I have O neg blood which is considered somewhat rare and my blood is also CMV neg, which makes it even more rare. I am usually called every 8 weeks to the day. My blood is used in neo-natal emergencies or for cancer patients. I started donating when I lived in NYC at age 18. It is one of the most rewarding experiences I have. My life has been devoted to serving others. I have taught countless thousands of students throughout NY and NJ over the last 42 years. Before I got into the martial arts, I was a downhill ski instructor in Vermont and NY. Way back in high school I was a member of the Honor Service Society.”
Thank you Gary for everything you do!
WHY SHOULD YOU DONATE BLOOD?
What if everyone eligible to donate became complacent and decided they didn’t need to donate because someone else would? What if there wasn’t enough donated blood available when you, a loved one – anyone – needed it? Our blood supply comes from caring donors like you. It takes about one hour of your time. When you give blood, it gives someone another smile, another hug, another chance. It is the gift of life. Be a Hero. Give Blood. |
