During the period between December 24th 2016 and January 1st 2017 members of the GRPD handled 267 calls for service, the highlights of which included:
12-24-2016
1:23 AM – P.O. John Tarantino was dispatched to a 9-1-1 report of a suspicious vehicle parked sideways on Argyle Road. Investigation determined the vehicle had been involved in a motor vehicle accident and that the driver had been removed from the scene by a family member. The driver, 17-year-old Glen Rock male, was located at Valley Hospital where he was being treated for injuries sustained in the accident. Neither the driver nor the family member made any attempt to notify police concerning the accident as required by law. The matter is currently under investigation and it is expected that charges will be filed in the near future.
12-26-2016
9:51 PM – During the course of a motor vehicle stop on Route 208 P.O. Bob Surdyka determined that the driver, a 36-year-old Vernon man, had an active no bail warrant for his arrest issued by the Sussex County Superior Court. The man was taken into custody and turned over to the custody of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department. He was also issued a summons for driving with a suspended license.
12-27-2016
3:25 PM – Officers were dispatched to the Rock Road in the Central Business District on a reported road rage incident. Investigation found that a 22-year-old male bicyclist was struck by a vehicle operated by a 77-year-old Glen Rock woman. The cyclist was examined by EMT’s on scene but refused further medical attention. According to several witnesses, prior to the collision both the cyclist and the motorist had been engaged in an argument which appeared to have begun in the area of Veteran’s Park on Main Street and continued onto Rock Rd. When the motorist turned right into and angled parking spot the cyclist passed her on the right and the collision occurred.
12-30-2016
10:25 AM – A Concord Avenue resident reported that he was bitten by a dog while jogging along Ackerman Avenue. The victim stated that the dog’s owner was present, but failed to control the animal. P.O. Bob Surdyka was able to locate the dog’s owner, a Maple Avenue resident, who denied that his dog bit the victim. The owner insisted that the dog only barked and lunged at the victim who subsequently fell. The matter has been referred to the Health Department and Animal Control for further investigation.

8:22 PM – The manager of CVS on Rock Road reported that an unknown male had shoplifted two containers of baby formula valued at $29.49. The actor had left the store before police were notified and no direction of travel could be provided. The detective bureau is attempting to identify the suspect from the store’s video surveillance system.

11:09 PM – A Main Street resident reported that unknown persons damaged a holiday reindeer ornament, valued at $110, on her front lawn. The group of individuals were believed to be juveniles, responding patrols found no one in the area.
01-01-2017
11:12 PM – While checking the parking lot of a closed commercial building along Harristown Road Det. Mike Trover confronted three individuals who were in the process of using heroin inside of a parked vehicle. He subsequently arrested a 25-year-old Nanuet NY man, a 27-year-old Maybrook NY man and 29-year-old Bardonia NY woman for possession of heroin, hypodermic syringes and narcotics paraphernalia. A total of 124 bags of heroin were recovered during the arrest. All three were taken into custody and processed at Glen Rock Police HQ. The two men were released ROR pending an appearance at Superior Court Central Judicial Processing in Hackensack scheduled for January 20th 2017. The female was found to have warrants for her arrest of out Butler, Norwood, Paterson and the Pascack Joint Municipal Court. Unable to post bail, she was turned over to the custody of the Woodcliff Lake Police Department for transport to the Bergen County Jail.
