Following a 4-1 record away from home last week, The Glen Rock High School wrestling team returns home for meets Wednesday and Friday against Becton Regional and Parsippany, respectively. Start time for both meets is 6 p.m.
The Panthers will look to build on the momentum they generated by sweeping a quad meet against Hawthorne, Indian Hills and Lakeland last Saturday at Indian Hills. Glen Rock beat Hawthorne 40-25, routed Indian Hills 72-9 and finished with a 51-14 decision against Lakeland to improve their record in dual meets to 8-4.
The Saturday sweep came on the morning after a 54-9 loss to powerful Emerson-Park Ridge (15-0), the eight-time defending champion of the NJIC, last Friday.
The Panthers are 1-1 in the NJIC’s Division 2, which has them in second place, behind Emerson-Park Ridge (2-0 in the league). The matchup against Becton (1-4 overall) will be the first league matchup for the Wildcats.

Lady Gaga is getting back to basics.
Following her panned performance in the flop movie Joker: Folie à Deux, the New
York City native, 38, is releasing a single titled Disease, set to be released Friday.
Diesase, the first of songs from her forthcoming seventh album,
was teased Tuesday on the Grammy-winning artist’s Instagram
account, as she captioned the image: ‘DISEASE 10.25.’
In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching vehicle, the actress-singer, whose real
name is Stefani Germanotta, sported a black mane as she ran from it.
Gaga’s label Universal Music on Monday put out pre-saves for the forthcoming
single, with links to Spotify and Apple Music, Variety reported.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing
follow-up’ by critics
The singer, whose hits include Bad Romance,
Born This Way, Just Dance and Poker Face, is headed back to her pop persona
following the September release of her album Harlequin, which was inspired by
Joker: Folie à Deux.
Among the tracks on the album included two new songs, and
standards such as That’s Entertainment, That’s Life and Get Happy.
Like the film, it was not an initial commercial success, marking her lowest ever entry for a full-length record on the
Billboard 200 charts at number 20.
Lady Gaga in the movie played the role of Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who earned the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in the franchise’s 2019 film Joker.
According to the outlet, Joker: Folie à Deux ‘could potentially lose $150 to $200 million’
despite studio insiders saying it would break even.
The Warner Bros. film has made $192.2 million worldwide, with $56.6
million in domestic box office revenue, according to Box Office Mojo.

Lady Gaga has had some commercial success in recent months
with her pairing with Bruno Mars on Die With a Smile,
which was released in August, landing in the third

Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent politicians are
better representing the views of everyday Australians,
unlike the two-party-dominated system in the
United States.
The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response to podcast host Joe Rogan complaining that
Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’.
‘We have the same sort of situation, but we have a very interesting thing
that’s happening in Australia at the moment, which is the
rise of independents,’ Crowe countered.
‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those independents have to
bring a non-party-line series of points to the argument.
‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us. In that it’s making both of the main parties
re-examine who they are and what they stand for.
Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’, highlighting how US politics
is completely dominated by the Democrat and Republican parties.
There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform parties,
but these receive vanishingly few votes in comparison.
Independent candidates can also stand and have been known to perform well on occasion.

Rogan who complained that Americans were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’

in the world
Civil rights opponent George Wallace ran a third-party campaign in the
1968 US election which saw him garner 10 million votes and take five southern states, while another disaffected Democrat, Strom Thurmond, in 1948
carried four southern states on a similarly racist platform
but with only a million votes.
The nephew of a president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was poised to get on the ballot in dozens of states
as an independent candidate before he pulled out and backed Republican Donald Trump.
He has now been appointed Health secretary in Trump’s incoming cabinet.
Trump himself had previously belonged to the Reform Party.
The former New York property developer had even considered running for
president in the 2000 election under the banner of that movement – formed by former third-party
presidential candidate Ross Perot, who won 19 per cent of the
popular vote in 1992 but gained no electoral college votes.
Australia, by contrast, has seen a rise in recent years of nominally independent politicians who have taken votes away
from the two traditional parties of Labor and the Liberal-National coalition
This situation is helped by a strong Green party who
now have 12 senators and four members in the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, independent candidates who run on strong climate platforms but are
fiscally conservative have been labelled
‘teal’ candidates.
This is because they have combined their ‘green’ views on climate with
the traditional ‘blue’ fiscal approach of the centre-right Liberal party.
Zali Steggall became the first Teal independent to achieve huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches at the 2019 election.

Maverick independent Bob Katter has just celebrated 50 years in parliament (pictured: being congratulated
by prime minister Anthony Albanese)
In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal seat from
former treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022 election.
Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which was first aired in August,
has recently resurfaced in Teal social media adverts.
They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who
founded Climate 200, which has given campaign funding to some Teal candidates.
Not all independents are Teals, however.
There is Dai Lee defeated the former Labor frontbencher and former NSW premier Kristina Keneally in the
Sydney seat of Fowler.
And, of course, maverick Bob Katter who has just celebrated 50 years in parliament, spending 20 years as a Queensland state MP before serving the past three decades in federal parliament as
the MP for the regional far north Queensland electorate of Kennedy.
Among his many mad-hat policies over the years include a
bid to teach school kids how to fire rifles and a desire to build a missile shield across northern Australia.

Smile 2 – starring Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage
and Jack Nicholson’s son Ray – emerged as the winner after a horror
movie box office showdown.
The fright flick eclipsed hot contender Terrifier 3 for the top spot.
The Smile sequel starring Scott, 31, as a pop star who begins experiencing terrifying and inexplicable events as she prepares for
a world tour, opened wide in more than 3,600 theaters, pulling in a payday of $23 million.
Ray, whose mom is Nicholson’s former partner Rebecca Broussard, shocked fans with an eerie grin in the new movie,
which was near-identical to the Oscar-winner’s maniacal
smile as Jack Torrance in the 1980 Stanley Kubrick classic, The Shining.
In a legendary scene, an insane Jack hacks at a bathroom door with an axe as his cowering wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) screams inside.
As he busts a hole in the door, he sticks his face through,
grins and exclaims: ‘Here’s Johnny!’ in an improvised line.
The original Smile, released in September 2022,
and starring Sosie Bacon, was a sleeper hit, which
was well received and earned $217,408,513 globally.
Smile 2 has received a 83-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes
and an 83-percent Popcornmeter rating from audiences.

Bright and early, my old friend, the beauty and wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, is standing at my door
clutching a Kilner jar with what looks like a small sponge floating in murky water.
‘I made kombucha for you,’ she says with an enthusiasm I don’t entirely share.
(The sponge, it turns out, is the Scoby, or ‘symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast’,
which is what’s used to ferment sweetened tea to make kombucha.
I don’t realise at the time, but this hideous thing takes weeks to develop and is in fact a very generous gift.)
The truth is, I’d drink (almost) anything if it gave me Liz’s zip.
At 61, a mother of five and a new grandmother, she honestly looks 20 years
younger. Fans of her YouTube channel and her 170,000 Instagram followers will know
how bright and smooth her skin is, but in person she
is fizzing with energy, too.
Liz and I have been friends for 25 years – over which time she has somehow seemed to gain in vitality as
I, nine years her junior, have… well, deflated.
Beauty and wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, right,
and Beatrice Aidin met back in the 1990s when they were both beauty journalists
So here’s my plan. I am going to Live Like Liz for a full eight weeks, morning to night,
to see just how much I, too, can turn back the clock.
I am going to eat, drink and exercise like Liz, ‘ground myself’ in a flower bed in my pyjamas like her, and even tape up my mouth
à la Liz. From my gut to my hormones, my brain to the very cells of my skin, I
will follow the ‘bio-hacks’ set out in her new book A Better Second Half:
Dial Back Your Age To Live A Longer, Healthier, Happier Life, which swiftly became a bestseller on its release this year.
Liz says it can’t fail, so long as I commit to it.
‘Who’s to say we can’t or shouldn’t change the way we age?’ she asks.
‘I was stronger, fitter and more capable in my 50s than I was in my 40s, so why can’t I be even more so in my 60s, 70s
and beyond?’
Perhaps more significantly, after the ‘car crash of emotional wreckage’
caused by the breakdown of her second marriage, and the divorce she went through in 2020, she now says:
‘I’m happier at 61 than I was at 40.’
Career-wise, it shows. When we met back in the 1990s we were both beauty journalists.
At launches for new products, I’d merrily down the free Krug while Liz sipped sparkling water.
‘Ah Bea, you were the yin to my yang,’ she says.
Now, her wellness empire has mushroomed… and I’m suffering major work anxiety, a
not-unrelated financial crisis and severe sciatica.
Frankly, I look and feel knackered. My skin is dull and I have dark circles under my eyes.
Physical pain interferes with my sleep, and I’ve been turning rather too readily to
the sauvignon blanc to help me nod off.
Food is not a priority: I’m either not interested or craving sugar, which means I’m a good 10lb
heavier than I should be.
So, can living like my rather fabulous friend make me feel as young as she looks?
More to the point – can I really stick to it, kombucha and all?
‘Come on Bea, get off your backside!’ Liz demands…
Liz (left) puts Beatrice through her paces in the gym.
Beatrice needs extra help with exercise because of her sciatica
Week one: I face up to my middle-age spread
Liz’s top-line diet philosophy is high-protein, low carb, meaning she’s a fan of lots of foods I love but didn’t think I should eat:
butter, unprocessed meat, avocados, good quality cheese, taramasalata
and thick Greek yoghurt.
High protein helps us ‘shift to a leaner, more toned shape, and lose that middle-aged spread,’ she says.
Timing matters. Liz eats two meals a day – brunch around
11am and dinner at 7pm. The order matters too: clear your plate of
chicken before rice, because eating protein before carbs keeps blood sugar levels stable.
In recent years she has increased her coffee intake (before 2pm)
because studies show four to five cups is
‘strongly associated with living longer’ thanks to the bioactives in coffee beans such as chlorogenic acid.
She eats wheatgerm, soya beans and nuts to up her intake of spermidine –
a dietary molecule that interacts with our DNA and mimics an anti-ageing
process called autophagy, which de-ages us at a cellular level.
Alcohol is basically a no-no. Liz has the ‘occasional glass’
of wine or tequila, but never more than two and never alone.
I chuck out the ready meals and plonk, roll up my sleeves and start cooking from scratch.
I grill venison, roast a chicken and make soups
with the leftovers.
Eating at specific times works for me – I’m never very hungry first thing – and enjoying the protein part of each meal first means I’m fuller and find it easy to cut back on my carb portions.
Gut health is a big focus, which means more fermented foods.
Much to my surprise, I love the kombucha and soon start to brew my own using
Liz’s Scoby. But homemade kimchi – fermented
veg – is a harder sell. When a lunch guest asks me
why I’m forcing myself to eat something I dislike so much,
I reply solemnly: ‘Liz told me to.’
Week two: I discover I can do only 3 press-ups
I really need help with exercise because sciatica means my normal routine has gone to pot.
Thankfully, Liz reckons just ten minutes a day of exercises such as squats, lunges and press-ups
is more valuable in the long term than a high-intensity gym session once a week or a long park run.
She introduces me to her personal trainer, Michael Garry, who delivers the (bombshell, but welcome) news that running any distance over 5k can ‘start
to have negative effects’ on our immune system and bone strength.
If you’re a runner, make it harder by speeding up your time, not increasing your distance.
At Michael’s insistence, I consult a physio about my sciatica, and then he devises a daily regime for me.
I try press-ups and make it to three. Mortifying.
Perseverance is clearly key. As are weights, especially in your 50s.
‘The more muscle you have, the more your bones are protected from osteoporosis, especially during midlife,’ says Michael.
For cardio, says Beatrice, I keep swimming twice a week. But instead of plodding up and down the pool, I start to compete with myself, speeding up the
laps
For my slack and flabby upper arms, he advises shoulder presses and
hammer curls, with 3kg weights in both hands.
I try tricep dips off a chair, and quickly find I can increase my reps – until by week four I’m doing two sets of
15.
I work out three times a week at home. At first the routine
takes 40 minutes but the more I do, the faster I do it, until the whole
thing – stretching, press-ups, weights – takes just 20 minutes.
For cardio, I keep swimming twice a week. But instead of plodding up and down the
pool, I start to compete with myself, speeding up the laps.
Week three: I slow the hormonal roller coaster
I’m menopausal and already on HRT, but I know I could improve how I feel, which
is sluggish and foggy.
Liz introduces me to something called the ‘estrobolome’ – the specific collection of bacteria
in the gut that influences how our body uses oestrogen. Put simply, some microbes improve the efficiency with which oestrogen reaches tissues around the body, meaning we use
our dwindling supplies more effectively.
The best way to support your estrobolome is by eating fibre from veg,
seeds and nuts, plus some of the low-sugar fruits such as apples, berries and plums.
Back to the supermarket I go.
To boost the happy hormone serotonin, my saintly mentor insists I finish my morning shower with a minimum 60-second blast of icy cold water, resulting –
she claims – in a ‘post-shock high’ and ‘genuine glow’.
Hmmm. I find it hard to relinquish the comfort of a hot shower and feel
not happy but mutinous as I step out of the bathroom shivering.
Week four: I stand in the flower bed
Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning and
standing barefoot on the grass. ‘Grounding’ apparently enables electrons from the surface of the Earth to transmit deep into the body, ‘where they have
an anti-inflammatory effect’.
Liz tells me she does this in the tranquil grounds of her glorious pile in the West
Country. I do it in a flower bed in my shared patio, still in my pyjamas, and feel, well, very self-conscious.
Later I graduate to the park, and – look away now – tread in dog mess, which
does not improve my emotional wellbeing.
She also encourages us to keep a Five Minute Gratitude Journal twice
a day. ‘Gratitude is… a superpower that improves longevity and supports the immune system,’
she says.
I can’t help but think my better-off mate has rather a lot more to smile about than me but, following
instructions, I write down three things I
am grateful for every morning, and every night a short list of ‘good things’
that happened that day, plus another (longer) list of ‘things that
are concerning me’.
My scepticism around gratitude slowly lifts as I find it does make me realise what’s important and what’s not.
It helps me see that things are a lot brighter than I thought.
Packing in a rush for a weekend away, I can’t find my journal and am surprised
by how bereft I feel without it.
Week five: I start to sleep well
I’m a night owl – I stay up too late watching
TV and end up hitting my snooze button past 8.30am…
and occasionally edging towards 10am.
Liz reckons anyone can improve their sleep if they follow her routine,
which means setting an evening alarm for 9pm – to remind yourself to start ‘winding down for bed’.
Emails, social media and TV are switched off, replaced by a printed book or a podcast.
She takes 120g of magnesium glycinate in a milky drink half an hour before bed (and stops eating two hours before).
Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning
Liz wears a bamboo fibre nightie or pyjamas to keep warm because she sleeps with an open window, which she covers with blackout blinds and curtains, and sprinkles her pillow with
a few drops of neat lavender essential oil.
I’m an e-book reader, so already failing at this routine.
Still, I leave my phone charging in the kitchen and
buy a regular alarm clock. The lavender oil makes
me sneeze, so I spray my pillows with C. Atherley Geranium Spray instead.
Oh, and I tape my lips up – Liz shows me how when she delivers
the kombucha. Forcing yourself to breathe through your
nose is said to promote more restful sleep.
All of this is time-consuming and takes practise, but I find the ritual soothing.
Five weeks in, I’m getting to sleep earlier than I have for years – at 10.30pm after 20 minutes drop-off time -and waking
at 7.30am. How virtuous!
Week six: I crash off the wagon
I’m doing my best, but then I go for lunch with a friend who
chirpily suggests a glass of wine, which turns into a bottle.
And then a second. Later, with a daytime hangover, I head to M&S and find reduced dauphinoise potatoes, which become dinner.
Liz has got me on a blood sugar tracker called Lingo (£289 for two months –
you jab a biosensor the size and shape of a plastic bottle top

Who knew that such deliciousness had such a high glycaemic load?
I call Liz to ‘fess up. ‘I have the odd day when I lie in, eat too much cake and drink too much tequila,’ she says.
‘But that’s fine because you then know what to do to put it right.
It’s not about being perfect.’ Phew!
Week seven: I tackle my financial mess
Re-reading my journal really helps here. By documenting
what I was so worried about day by day, my perspective on it changes.
Here, in black and white, is a record of how I felt at the start
of this project and how I’ve evolved.
I’ve come unstuck – in a good way. I’m not going to pretend it’s been easy because change
is uncomfortable, but I realise there’s simply nothing to be
gained from the worry spiral.
If freelance life is tough, and my income erratic, I’m going to do something
about it. Buoyed with the confidence that comes with action, I apply for part-time admin jobs.
As personal trainer Michael observes as we work out on Zoom, I wouldn’t have
done this before. He’s right. Finally I’ve started to
take control.
Week eight: And the winner is…
So how have eight weeks of Living Like Liz changed me?
Physically, I’m in much better shape. I’ve lost 7 lb and taken an extraordinary 5 in off my
waist and 11 in off my body as a whole.
Those three pathetic press-ups have become a whopping 40 per workout, and the measly 3kg weights are now 6kg, meaning I have proper bicep definition.
The sleeveless tops will be coming out again this party season.

Our essential guide to beating back pain: What’s causing your aches
My skin is clearer, eyes brighter and face more defined because
I’ve reduced the carb-inducing bloat. I’m sleeping better and feeling infinitely less anxious.
Most remarkably – and this is really life-changing
– my sciatica is almost gone and I can come off strong painkillers.
I know sciatica can disappear of its own accord, but the timing is surely no
coincidence. All those exercises have strengthened the
muscles around my spine and buttocks and I’m convinced it’s done
the trick.
I meet Liz for lunch, nervous about whether she’ll see a difference.
‘Oh wow,’ she says, taking a good look at her pupil. ‘Those
arms! You definitely look younger.’
We chat for a while and she adds: ‘You also seem more content and optimistic.
You have an inner glow and a halo of positivity.’
Well, yes, she would say that, wouldn’t she? (Probably.
Though Liz is known for her candour, so
it’s not a given.) ‘I wasn’t sure you were going to prioritise yourself
enough and commit,’ she admits ‘You weren’t an easy
nut to crack so I’m thrilled.’
I’m delighted with my gold star. And I’m grateful to her, which
is one of the key lessons I’ve learned. Gratitude makes everything feel better.
That – along with the kombucha, ice-cold showers (which I have learned to love) and
the odd tequila – are the habits I’ll hold on to. But not
(shudder!) the kimchi or flower beds.
As Liz says, everyone deserves to have a better
second half – and if I can do it, anyone can.

The GCF is 3.
Nothing signals the start of winter quite like the return of the Fair Isle knit.
Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only pull out from the back of our wardrobes as
an alternative to a Christmas jumper (especially the red-nosed reindeer kind à la Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary) or for a winter sport holiday (specifically for après-ski), the Fair Isle jumper has now become somewhat
of a fashion statement.
The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland Island in Scotland and uses a traditional knitting technique to create those distinctive patterns with multiple colours.
It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince of Wales (later
Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained a casual wardrobe staple for members of the Royal Family, including
Kate Middleton, whose jumper collection includes at least three different Fair
Isle designs.
Kensington Palace
Another fan of the nostalgic knit is Alexa Chung,
who recently layered a Fair Isle vest by Molly Goddard over a light blue button-down in a
snap for Instagram. The It-girl previously also wore a V-neck
vest from Cotswolds-based knitwear brand Cooking
Apple, and sported a chunky Fair Isle crewneck with white, straight-leg
jeans, black loafers and an oversized, black leather
blazer to ring in the festive season at private members’
club in London last year.
A host of designers have dropped Fair Isle-inspired knits for AW24,
proving the multicoloured jumpers have become a timeless
investment. If, as in our case, that £1,885 cashmere turtleneck
from Loro Piana is a little out of your budget, there
are countless options on the high street. The cropped
cardi from Hush certainly caught our attention, as did the
Fair Isle knit that was featured in the John Lewis Christmas advert.

Lady Gaga is getting back to basics.
Following her panned performance in the flop movie Joker: Folie à Deux, the
New York City native, 38, is releasing a single titled Disease,
set to be released Friday.
Diesase, the first of songs from her forthcoming seventh album, was teased Tuesday on the Grammy-winning artist’s Instagram account, as she captioned the image: ‘DISEASE 10.25.’
In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching vehicle, the actress-singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta,
sported a black mane as she ran from it.
Gaga’s label Universal Music on Monday put out pre-saves for the forthcoming single, with links to Spotify and Apple Music,
Variety reported.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’ by critics
The singer, whose hits include Bad Romance, Born This Way, Just Dance and Poker Face, is headed back to her pop
persona following the September release of her album Harlequin, which was inspired by
Joker: Folie à Deux.
Among the tracks on the album included two
new songs, and standards such as That’s Entertainment, That’s Life and Get
Happy.
Like the film, it was not an initial commercial success, marking her lowest ever entry
for a full-length record on the Billboard 200 charts at number 20.
Lady Gaga in the movie played the role of Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who earned the Best Actor
Oscar for his performance in the franchise’s 2019 film Joker.
According to the outlet, Joker: Folie à Deux ‘could potentially lose $150 to $200 million’ despite studio insiders saying it would break even.
The Warner Bros. film has made $192.2 million worldwide, with $56.6 million in domestic box office revenue, according to Box
Office Mojo.

Lady Gaga has had some commercial success in recent
months with her pairing with Bruno Mars on Die With a Smile, which was released in August,

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter to choose between an immigration crackdown and reproductive rights
As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire, each major candidate
has leaned heavily on a favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat Kamala Harris and
border security for Republican Donald Trump.
In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak, with both topics the subject
of fiercely debated ballot referendums.
And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President
Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,
500 votes — every ballot truly will count.
In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door
to try to persuade voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the state constitution — and, while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist, the abortion restrictions imposed by several
Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”
Une pancarte barrée du slogan “L’indifférence aux élections est dangereuse”, à Tucson, en Arizona,
le 16 octobre 2024
Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights, Ireland,
a registered nurse, has worked in several states where abortion is banned or severely limited.
Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences
for women having problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors
refuse to treat them.
“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,” she told AFP.
– ‘Abortion is murder’ –
As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she noted,
particularly to young people who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the
three justices who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.
Donald Trump lors d’un meeting à Tempe, en Arizona, le 24 octobre 2024
“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,”
Ireland said.
But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old college student.
“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions, he conceded, “but that’s very small.”
He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants
that have entered the country from Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,” he said.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but to back the proposal to let local law enforcement detain, arrest and prosecute anyone suspected of having entered the country illegally — powers normally reserved to the border police who work
for the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez said.
– Mixed impact –
The major political parties see the competing referendums as
offering an opportunity to mobilize more people to vote — on ballot questions at the
very heart of the two presidential campaigns.
Anti-abortion activists demonstrate outside a clinic in Phoenix, Arizona on April 18, 2024
But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White House
that activists hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona, with the Republican holding a very narrow
lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong support
and both appear likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny
Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to bring
Trump back to the White House, Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,” an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,”
she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language on the Arizona ballot question finding
support not just among Trump Republicans but also “moderates and even many Democrats,” said John Kavanagh, a Republican and
an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent
toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing
of the border Biden ordered in recent months.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”
At equilibrium, the reaction mixture does not have 50 percent reactants
and 50 percent products because the reaction has reached
a dynamic state where the rates

Bright and early, my old friend, the beauty and wellness
entrepreneur Liz Earle, is standing at my door clutching a Kilner
jar with what looks like a small sponge floating in murky water.
‘I made kombucha for you,’ she says with an enthusiasm I don’t entirely share.
(The sponge, it turns out, is the Scoby, or ‘symbiotic culture
of bacteria and yeast’, which is what’s used to ferment sweetened tea to make kombucha.
I don’t realise at the time, but this hideous thing takes weeks to develop and is
in fact a very generous gift.)
The truth is, I’d drink (almost) anything if it gave me Liz’s zip.
At 61, a mother of five and a new grandmother, she
honestly looks 20 years younger. Fans of her YouTube channel and her 170,
000 Instagram followers will know how bright and smooth her skin is, but in person she is fizzing with
energy, too.
Liz and I have been friends for 25 years – over which time she
has somehow seemed to gain in vitality as I, nine years her junior, have…
well, deflated.
Beauty and wellness entrepreneur Liz Earle, right, and Beatrice Aidin met back in the 1990s
when they were both beauty journalists
So here’s my plan. I am going to Live Like Liz for a full
eight weeks, morning to night, to see just how much I, too, can turn back the clock.
I am going to eat, drink and exercise like Liz, ‘ground myself’ in a flower bed in my pyjamas like her, and even tape up my mouth à
la Liz. From my gut to my hormones, my brain to the very cells of my skin, I will follow the ‘bio-hacks’ set out in her new book A
Better Second Half: Dial Back Your Age To Live A Longer, Healthier, Happier Life, which swiftly became a bestseller on its release this year.
Liz says it can’t fail, so long as I commit to it.
‘Who’s to say we can’t or shouldn’t change the way we
age?’ she asks.
‘I was stronger, fitter and more capable in my 50s than I was in my 40s, so
why can’t I be even more so in my 60s, 70s and beyond?’
Perhaps more significantly, after the ‘car crash of emotional wreckage’ caused by the breakdown of
her second marriage, and the divorce she went through in 2020, she now says:
‘I’m happier at 61 than I was at 40.’
Career-wise, it shows. When we met back in the 1990s we were
both beauty journalists. At launches for new products, I’d merrily down the free Krug while Liz sipped sparkling water.
‘Ah Bea, you were the yin to my yang,’ she says.
Now, her wellness empire has mushroomed… and I’m
suffering major work anxiety, a not-unrelated
financial crisis and severe sciatica.
Frankly, I look and feel knackered. My skin is
dull and I have dark circles under my eyes. Physical pain interferes with my sleep,
and I’ve been turning rather too readily to the sauvignon blanc to help me nod off.
Food is not a priority: I’m either not interested or craving sugar, which means I’m a good 10lb
heavier than I should be.
So, can living like my rather fabulous friend make me feel
as young as she looks? More to the point – can I really stick to it, kombucha and all?
‘Come on Bea, get off your backside!’ Liz demands…
Liz (left) puts Beatrice through her paces in the gym. Beatrice needs extra help with exercise because of her
sciatica
Week one: I face up to my middle-age spread
Liz’s top-line diet philosophy is high-protein,
low carb, meaning she’s a fan of lots of foods
I love but didn’t think I should eat: butter, unprocessed meat,
avocados, good quality cheese, taramasalata and thick Greek yoghurt.
High protein helps us ‘shift to a leaner, more toned shape, and lose that middle-aged
spread,’ she says.
Timing matters. Liz eats two meals a day – brunch around 11am and dinner at 7pm.
The order matters too: clear your plate of chicken before rice, because eating protein before carbs keeps blood sugar levels stable.
In recent years she has increased her coffee intake (before 2pm)
because studies show four to five cups is ‘strongly associated with living
longer’ thanks to the bioactives in coffee beans such as chlorogenic acid.
She eats wheatgerm, soya beans and nuts to up her intake of spermidine –
a dietary molecule that interacts with our DNA and mimics an anti-ageing process called
autophagy, which de-ages us at a cellular level.
Alcohol is basically a no-no. Liz has the ‘occasional glass’ of
wine or tequila, but never more than two and never alone.
I chuck out the ready meals and plonk, roll up my sleeves and start cooking from scratch.
I grill venison, roast a chicken and make soups
with the leftovers.
Eating at specific times works for me – I’m never very hungry first thing – and
enjoying the protein part of each meal first means I’m
fuller and find it easy to cut back on my carb portions.
Gut health is a big focus, which means more fermented foods.
Much to my surprise, I love the kombucha and soon start to
brew my own using Liz’s Scoby. But homemade kimchi
– fermented veg – is a harder sell. When a lunch guest asks me why I’m forcing myself to eat
something I dislike so much, I reply solemnly:
‘Liz told me to.’
Week two: I discover I can do only 3 press-ups
I really need help with exercise because sciatica
means my normal routine has gone to pot.
Thankfully, Liz reckons just ten minutes a day of exercises such as squats,
lunges and press-ups is more valuable in the long term than a high-intensity gym session once a week or a long park run.
She introduces me to her personal trainer, Michael Garry,
who delivers the (bombshell, but welcome) news that running any
distance over 5k can ‘start to have negative effects’ on our immune system and bone strength.
If you’re a runner, make it harder by speeding up your time, not increasing
your distance.
At Michael’s insistence, I consult a physio about my sciatica, and
then he devises a daily regime for me. I try press-ups and make it
to three. Mortifying. Perseverance is clearly
key. As are weights, especially in your 50s.
‘The more muscle you have, the more your bones are protected from
osteoporosis, especially during midlife,’ says Michael.
For cardio, says Beatrice, I keep swimming twice a week. But instead of
plodding up and down the pool, I start to compete with
myself, speeding up the laps
For my slack and flabby upper arms, he advises shoulder
presses and hammer curls, with 3kg weights in both hands.
I try tricep dips off a chair, and quickly find I can increase my
reps – until by week four I’m doing two sets of 15.
I work out three times a week at home. At first the routine takes 40 minutes but the more I do, the faster I do it, until the whole thing – stretching,
press-ups, weights – takes just 20 minutes.
For cardio, I keep swimming twice a week. But instead of plodding up and down the
pool, I start to compete with myself, speeding up the laps.
Week three: I slow the hormonal roller coaster
I’m menopausal and already on HRT, but I know I
could improve how I feel, which is sluggish and foggy.
Liz introduces me to something called the ‘estrobolome’ – the specific collection of bacteria in the gut that influences how our
body uses oestrogen. Put simply, some microbes improve
the efficiency with which oestrogen reaches tissues around the body, meaning we use our dwindling supplies
more effectively.
The best way to support your estrobolome is by eating fibre from
veg, seeds and nuts, plus some of the low-sugar fruits such as
apples, berries and plums. Back to the supermarket I
go.
To boost the happy hormone serotonin, my saintly mentor insists I finish my
morning shower with a minimum 60-second blast of icy cold water, resulting
– she claims – in a ‘post-shock high’ and ‘genuine
glow’.
Hmmm. I find it hard to relinquish the comfort of a hot
shower and feel not happy but mutinous as I step out of the bathroom shivering.
Week four: I stand in the flower bed
Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the morning and standing barefoot on the grass.
‘Grounding’ apparently enables electrons from the surface of the Earth to transmit deep into the body, ‘where they have an anti-inflammatory effect’.
Liz tells me she does this in the tranquil grounds of her glorious pile in the West Country.
I do it in a flower bed in my shared patio, still in my pyjamas, and
feel, well, very self-conscious. Later I graduate to the park,
and – look away now – tread in dog mess, which does not improve my
emotional wellbeing.
She also encourages us to keep a Five Minute Gratitude Journal twice a day.
‘Gratitude is… a superpower that improves longevity and supports the immune system,’ she says.
I can’t help but think my better-off mate has rather a lot more to smile about than me but, following
instructions, I write down three things I am grateful for every morning, and every night a short list of
‘good things’ that happened that day, plus
another (longer) list of ‘things that are concerning me’.
My scepticism around gratitude slowly lifts as I find
it does make me realise what’s important and what’s
not. It helps me see that things are a lot brighter than I thought.
Packing in a rush for a weekend away, I can’t find my journal and am surprised by how bereft I feel without it.
Week five: I start to sleep well
I’m a night owl – I stay up too late watching TV and end up hitting my snooze button past 8.30am…
and occasionally edging towards 10am.
Liz reckons anyone can improve their sleep if they follow her routine, which means setting an evening alarm for 9pm –
to remind yourself to start ‘winding down for bed’.
Emails, social media and TV are switched off, replaced by a printed book or a podcast.
She takes 120g of magnesium glycinate in a milky drink half
an hour before bed (and stops eating two hours before).
Living Like Liz means getting outside first thing in the
morning
Liz wears a bamboo fibre nightie or pyjamas to keep warm because she sleeps with an open window, which she covers with blackout blinds and curtains, and sprinkles her pillow with a few drops of neat lavender essential oil.
I’m an e-book reader, so already failing at this routine.
Still, I leave my phone charging in the kitchen and buy a
regular alarm clock. The lavender oil makes
me sneeze, so I spray my pillows with C. Atherley Geranium Spray instead.
Oh, and I tape my lips up – Liz shows me how when she delivers the kombucha.
Forcing yourself to breathe through your nose is said to promote more restful sleep.
All of this is time-consuming and takes practise, but I find
the ritual soothing. Five weeks in, I’m getting to sleep earlier
than I have for years – at 10.30pm after 20 minutes drop-off time -and waking at 7.30am.
How virtuous!
Week six: I crash off the wagon
I’m doing my best, but then I go for lunch with
a friend who chirpily suggests a glass of wine, which turns into a bottle.
And then a second. Later, with a daytime hangover,
I head to M&S and find reduced dauphinoise potatoes, which become dinner.
Liz has got me on a blood sugar tracker called Lingo
(£289 for two months – you jab a biosensor the
size and shape of a plastic bottle top into your upper arm, and then link
it to an app on your phone), which shows a massive post-potato spike and then a
huge slump, which makes me tired and irritable. Who knew that such deliciousness had such a high glycaemic load?
I call Liz to ‘fess up. ‘I have the odd day when I lie in, eat too much cake and drink
too much tequila,’ she says. ‘But that’s fine because you then know
what to do to put it right. It’s not about being perfect.’ Phew!
Week seven: I tackle my financial mess
Re-reading my journal really helps here. By documenting what I
was so worried about day by day, my perspective on it changes.
Here, in black and white, is a record of how I felt at the start of this project and how I’ve evolved.
I’ve come unstuck – in a good way. I’m not going to pretend it’s been easy because change is
uncomfortable, but I realise there’s simply nothing to be
gained from the worry spiral.
If freelance life is tough, and my income erratic,
I’m going to do something about it. Buoyed with the confidence that comes with action, I apply for part-time admin jobs.
As personal trainer Michael observes as we work out on Zoom, I wouldn’t have done this before.
He’s right. Finally I’ve started to take control.
Week eight: And the winner is…
So how have eight weeks of Living Like Liz changed me?
Physically, I’m in much better shape. I’ve lost
7 lb and taken an extraordinary 5 in off my waist
and 11 in off my body as a whole.
Those three pathetic press-ups have become a whopping 40 per workout, and the measly 3kg weights are now 6kg, meaning I have proper bicep definition. The sleeveless tops will be coming out again this party season.

Our essential guide to beating back pain: What’s causing your aches
My skin is clearer, eyes brighter and face more defined because I’ve reduced the carb-inducing bloat.
I’m sleeping better and feeling infinitely less anxious.
Most remarkably – and this is really life-changing – my sciatica is almost gone and I can come
off strong painkillers. I know sciatica can disappear of its own accord, but the
timing is surely no coincidence. All those exercises have strengthened the
muscles around my spine and buttocks and I’m
convinced it’s done the trick.
I meet Liz for lunch, nervous about whether she’ll see a difference.
‘Oh wow,’ she says, taking a good look at her pupil.
‘Those arms! You definitely look younger.’
We chat for a while and she adds: ‘You also seem more content and optimistic.
You have an inner glow and a halo of positivity.’
Well, yes, she would say that, wouldn’t she? (Probably.
Though Liz is known for her candour, so it’s not a given.) ‘I
wasn’t sure you were going to prioritise yourself enough and commit,
‘ she admits ‘You weren’t an easy nut to crack so I’m thrilled.’
I’m delighted with my gold star. And I’m grateful to her, which is one of the key lessons I’ve learned.
Gratitude makes everything feel better.
That – along with the kombucha, ice-cold showers
(which I have learned to love) and the odd tequila – are the
habits I’ll hold on to. But not (shudder!) the kimchi or flower beds.
As Liz says, everyone deserves to have a better second half – and if I can do it, anyone can.

Healthier, Happier Life, by Liz Earle (Hodder & Stoughton, £22).

So it’s kind of a complicated process, but here’s the two-sentence version: Lightning
is an electric current that takes the path of least resistance from the
base of a cloud to the ground. Since the air it travels
through is not uniform—variations in things like temperature,
humidity, and pollutants determine how resistant air is to the charge—the
lightning has to zig and zag to stay on that path.

One way to understand it is to look at a crack in the sidewalk (or perhaps a cracker) and
compare that shape to the path of a lightning stroke through the sky.
Lightning usually originates at altitudes of around ten miles, and can reach
about that far horizontally. Air does not conduct
electricity until it is broken down (‘ionized’) by a high voltage electric field.
This breakdown is a random, unpredictable process that proceeds in a series of steps between the
sky and the earth.

and is set for release on October 4.

The film is the much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Academy Award-winning Joker, which earned more than $1 billion at the
global box office and remains the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.
The second instalment finds Arthur Fleck institutionalised at Arkham awaiting trial for his crimes as Joker.
‘While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not
only stumbles upon true love, but also finds the music that’s
always been inside him,’ a press release shared.
The last time that Joaquin played The Joker, Arthur Fleck, he had to drop three and a half stone.
He went on a diet of lettuce, asparagus and apples.
Five years later he has returned to the Oscar-winning role again in – and says that he
had to lose almost the same amount of weight once more, and is never doing it again.
Speaking at the Venice Film Festival he said: ‘I’m not going to talk through specifics
of the diet, because I just think nobody wants to hear that.
‘But this time, it felt a bit more complicated just because
there was so much dance rehearsal that we were doing, which I didn’t have last
time.
‘It felt a bit more difficult, but it is safe. But you’re right, I’m now 49, I probably shouldn’t do this
again. This is probably it for me.’

He added: ‘I know I was responsible last time for talking about it, but it’s difficult to do so.
‘That becomes your obsession because you’re working the entire time to get
to a certain weight.
‘So then you end up talking about it, and then it just sounds
like an actor going on and on about how much weight they lost.
‘By the end of that run I was so sick of myself and angry at myself for making such a
big deal about that part, because you just do what
you’re ****ing supposed to do. So this time I was like,
‘I’m not going to do that’.’

Nothing signals the start of winter quite like the return of the
Fair Isle knit. Once considered ‘ugly’ knitwear we’d only pull out from the back of our
wardrobes as an alternative to a Christmas jumper (especially the red-nosed reindeer kind à la Mark
Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary) or for a winter sport
holiday (specifically for après-ski), the Fair Isle
jumper has now become somewhat of a fashion statement.
The knit is named after the small, eponymous Shetland Island in Scotland and uses a traditional knitting technique to
create those distinctive patterns with multiple colours. It was brought into vogue by an earlier Prince
of Wales (later Edward VIII) in the 1920s, and has remained a
casual wardrobe staple for members of the Royal Family,
including Kate Middleton, whose jumper collection includes at least
three different Fair Isle designs.
Kensington Palace
Another fan of the nostalgic knit is Alexa Chung, who recently layered a Fair Isle
vest by Molly Goddard over a light blue button-down in a snap for Instagram.
The It-girl previously also wore a V-neck vest from Cotswolds-based knitwear
brand Cooking Apple, and sported a chunky Fair Isle crewneck with white, straight-leg jeans, black loafers and an oversized, black leather
blazer to ring in the festive season at private members’ club in London last year.
A host of designers have dropped Fair Isle-inspired knits for AW24,
proving the multicoloured jumpers have become a timeless investment.

Joker: Folie À Deux — starring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix — may have bombed at the box office, but the name behind
the new flick is a perfect fit that nails its darkly playful tone.
Folie À Deux directly translates to madness for two.
The term means ‘the presence of the same or similar delusional ideas
in two persons closely associated with one another’, According to Merriam-Webster.
And while the name is a stroke of clever ingenuity, the film
itself might leave audiences feeling more bewildered than entertained.
The new flick has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic
book movie history as it bombed at the box office
on opening night.

Joker: Folie À Deux is branded ‘bleak’ and the ‘most disappointing follow-up’
by critics
Joaquin reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel, which had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal in the 2019
film, while Gaga took on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn).
However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D rating on CinemaScore — the
lowest score for a comic book movie at the time
of writing.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds a higher score with a C+.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of
31 percent and a critic score of 33 percent.
The sequel is projected to rake in less that $50 million at the domestic box office during the entirety of
opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has since drastically
dropped.
Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters –
and eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the
global box office.

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had
a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget
increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million.
The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews
from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival.
Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of
the Joker (Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score.
The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film
Festival last month in September, where it earned a 12-minute
standing ovation, per Deadline.
However, audiences have since taken to X after the
movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions on the sequel, which features musical sequences.
One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve
this. what happened to the script?’ while another added, ‘is it that bad,’ followed by a crying face emoji.
‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have been a good choice.
It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator Fleck is,’ one typed.
‘But with some original songs, that keep everything vague,
not just covers. Also when I heard of the ending I snorted fr.’
A social media user wrote, ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if the original wasn’t
a musical.’
‘Maybe he [Phillips] only had an hour long movie, and decided to randomly add musical scenes to
fill the runtime,’ one penned.
‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along with a monkey staring out a

One shared, ‘The audience that loved the first movie is

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he would be interested in making

An invitation to lunch at Caviar Kaspia was, once upon a time, an offer you
simply didn’t refuse. Providing, of course, that the bill was on someone else.
Because caviar, smeared on blinis or piled high on baked potatoes, sure didn’t come cheap.
There may have been other things on the menu, but no one paid them much heed.
This was all about lashings of the black stuff.
Caviar Kaspia’s signature baked potato and caviar:
‘there are few better dishes on earth…only the price, at
just under £150, is ridiculous’
Caviar Kaspia popped her final tin about two decades back.
And that site, hidden down a smart Mayfair mews, was taken over
by Gavin Rankin (who used to be the boss), and transformed into the brilliant
Bellamy’s. It prospers to this day. Kaspia, on the other hand, went quiet.
Until last year, when she reopened as a members’ club in another Mayfair backstreet.
But a £2,000 a year membership fee proved hard to swallow, meaning the doors
were opened to the great unwashed.
Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome – albeit near empty – dining room,
lusciously lavish, under the stern gaze of a stern painting of a very stern man. The soft, crepuscular gloom is broken up by the
glare of table lamps, indecorously bright, while a loud soundtrack of indolent, indeterminate beats
throbs in the background. The whole place is scented with gilded ennui.
Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale, luminescent beauty,
clad in diaphanous couture. They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera
phone. Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.
We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque
monsieur that tastes far better than it ought to.
Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily confident.
We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such effervescent charm and charisma that had she burst into an impromptu performance
of ‘Willkommen’, we would have barely blinked. Baked potatoes,
skin as crisp as parchment, insides whipped savagely hard with butter and sour cream, are a
study in tuber art. A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar, gently saline, raises them to the
sublime. Only the price, at just under £150 each, is ridiculous.
But there are few better dishes on earth. I’d eat this every
day if I could. But I can’t. Obviously. That’s the
problem with caviar. One taste is never enough.
About £200 per head. Caviar Kaspia, 1a Chesterfield Street,

Tim Dillon, who makes a brief appearance in Joker: Folie à Deux, has described the new sequel as ‘terrible’ and ‘the worst film ever made’.
The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (Joker) and Lady Gaga as Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn), faced negative reviews from critics before
its October 4 release and flopped at the box office.
Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd Philips’s new film has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it
was ‘going to bomb’ while filming.
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast,
Tim said: ‘It’s the worst film ever made.
‘I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was
a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels.
This was loved by the wrong kinds of people.
This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage!
Nihilism! All these think pieces.

‘And then I think, ‘What if we went the other way,’ and now
they have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing to a point where it’s insane.’
He continued: ‘It has no plot. We would sit there, me and these other guys were
all dressed in these security outfits because we’re working at the Arkham

‘What the f*** is this?’ And they’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ I go, ‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.’
‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, ‘What is the

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of
the sequel took to social media after its release last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.
The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office,
good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and
half that of its predecessor.
Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking
away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical element
not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.
‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive as people
are making it out to be. I love that the film didn’t try to be
a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.

lot of fun.’
Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd Philips’s new film has ‘no plot’
and admitted he knew it was ‘going to bomb’ while filming
He said: ‘It’s the worst film ever made. It has no plot.
We would sit there, me and these other guys and I’d go, ‘What the
f*** is this?’ And they’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ It’s not even hate-watchable.
That’s how terrible it is’
Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the
sequel took to social media after its release last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture
One user marvelled that Joker 2 is ‘getting universal hate despite being more interesting and creative than anything marvel has done in years is expected.’
It comes after lead star Lady Gaga was left ‘disappointed’ at
the immense flood of negative reactions to Joker: Folie à Deux,
with the singer’s team now keen to quickly push out other projects to help distract from the furore over the
film, insiders claim.
Todd Phillips‘ sequel has bombed, raking in just under $40 million at the
domestic box office, and receiving the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history.
Gaga, 38, is reportedly confused at the lack of love for her turn as Harleen Lee Quinzel,
aka Harley Quinn, alongside Joaquin Phoenix, 49, as the Joker – a role that won him the best actor Oscar
in 2019 – in the wake of the standing ovation it received at the Venice Film Festival last month.
‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that
people don’t love it after the response it received from critics before it premiered,’ a
source exclusively told DailyMail.com.
‘She put so much heart into the movie and has so much respect for
the DC comics fan base.’
They added: ‘Her team is quietly looking at other projects they can roll out as they
want to move on this from as quickly as possible.’

But despite the lacklustre reception from fans, a second source claimed she is not
letting it deter her from returning to the big screen, with the singer said to be eyeing up

LUXEMBOURG, Oct 7 (Reuters) – Germany’s economic model is
not broken but Europe’s biggest economy has lost competitiveness over
the past decade, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Monday.
“We can’t be satisfied with the economic developments in Germany,” he
told journalists ahead of a Eurogroup meeting.
The German economy is expected to contract by 0.2% in 2024, an economy ministry spokesperson said on Monday, cutting the forecast
from a previous projection of 0.3% growth this year.
If realised, this would be the second consecutive year of contraction for Germany’s economy,
which was the weakest among its large euro zone peers last year with a 0.3% decline in gross domestic product.
Lindner said the government was introducing supply-side measures to try to return the economy to growth.
“After these reforms, Germany will have more competitiveness again,” Lindner said,
adding that the growth initiative was just a first step for an economic turnaround,
“but we have to build on it.”
AMBITION NEEDED
Lindner said “ambition” was needed to keep EU public finances
in order, or to put them back in order where necessary.
“I can only encourage everyone to implement structural reforms and to make unpopular decisions,” Lindner said.
“What seems to be unpopular at the moment is the willingness to take responsibility for the next generation and for the stability of the European Union as a whole.”
Lindner said he could not comment on the French budget
plans because he had not had the chance to talk
with his French colleagues yet, but he would
do so on Monday evening.
“We should all realise that the credibility of public finances vis-à-vis the capital markets is not to be trifled with,” Lindner said.
“We must credibly reduce our deficits and our debt so that we can continue to finance ourselves well and in a stable manner.”

Lady Gaga is ‘disappointed’ at the immense flood of negative reactions to
Joker: Folie à Deux, with the singer’s team now keen to
quickly push out other projects to help distract from the furor over the film, insiders claim.
Todd Phillips‘ sequel was officially released
in theaters on October 4, but despite expectations, it bombed, raking in just under $40 million at

they said.

Tarantino was set to create The Movie Critic which would have been his tenth and final
film, but on April 17, sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the project was canceled.
The famed director is now believed to be working up a new project to mark his final cinematic release.
The singer’s team is now keen to push out other projects to help distract from the backlash, insiders have
told DailyMail.com
Joker: Folie à Deux has flopped at the box office,
with the psychological musical thriller also landing the lowest CinemaScore for
a comic book movie
Gaga, real name is Stefani Germanotta, is hoping the Joker 2 flop will just be
a small blip in her career, after the film received a D rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for
a comic book movie.
Madame Web — which notably also flopped in theaters earlier this year and also received terrible reviews — holds the
higher score of C+.
Joker notably opened with $96.2 million on its theater release in 2019 and eventually took a little over $1 billion in the
global box office.
The first movie – which was also directed by Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget more than doubled to around $200 million for Folie À Deux.
The sequel screened during the Venice International Film
Festival last month, where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.
It had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number drastically dropped amid mixed reviews
before release.
Audiences have since shared their opinions on the sequel,
which features multiple musical sequences.
‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this,’ wrote one on X.
‘What happened to the script?’
Another user added: ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if
the original wasn’t a musical.’
An insider told DailyMail.com: ‘Gaga is surprised by the response to Joker 2 and is shocked that people don’t love it after the response it received from critics before it premiered’
‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ shared a third,
along with a monkey staring out a window.
One fan branded it ‘bad,’ adding:’ It was pretentious
and dull. Has the aesthetic of an arthouse film without the substance.
‘It also insults the audience’s intelligence. the songs
were also underwhelming too. They shouldn’t have let this escape to theaters.’
Another said: ‘The audience that loved the first movie is not the same audience running to see musicals.
This was a gigantic mistake from step 1.’
Many social media users have also slammed the movie’s final scene, which saw Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck brutally stabbed to death by a fellow inmate
who could in fact by the real Joker.
But others did jump in in defense of the film, with one hailing it ‘amazing.’
‘100% as divisive as people are making it out
to be,’ they continued. ‘I love that the film didn’t try to
be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs
or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’
Another user said: ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved
how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements were a lot of fun.’
Another source explained: ‘Gaga thought that this film could get her an Oscar nomination’ (pictured
director Todd Phillips, Gaga and Phoenix in September)
The insider explained: ‘She would now like to land a role in Quentin Tarantino’s next and final film’
One user claimed the film is ‘getting universal hate despite being
more interesting and creative than anything marvel has done in years is expected.’
‘Joker 2 is genuinely such a clever movie which carries the character study format of
the first movie into the second in a way which, surprisingly, will floor you by the end,’ declared another.
‘I’m astounded reception is this bad because this is SUCH a
clever movie.’
A video of Gaga and Phoenix’s awkward reaction to
being asked if Folie à Deux was ‘everything they expected’
went viral amid the backlash.
For a few seconds, the two stars sat in silence as they
both waited for the other to answer the question.
‘Tell them how you feel, Joaquin,’ Gaga said to her costar as she held out a fake microphone in front of him.
‘It’s so hard to talk about but I think we feel like we achieved what we set out to do,’ he replied.
Lady Gaga is getting back to basics.

In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching vehicle, the actress-singer, whose real name is

critics
The singer, whose hits include Bad Romance, Born This Way,

Styling Tips for Corporate Goth Fashion
When it comes to styling your corporate goth outfits,
it’s all about finding the perfect balance between professional and gothic elements.
By incorporating gothic details in subtle ways and experimenting with unique pieces, you can create a look that is both edgy and work-appropriate.
One way to infuse gothic elements into your professional attire is
by pairing tailored pieces like blazers or pantsuits
with gothic accessories or unique prints.
For example, you can wear a sleek black blazer with a subtle spiderweb
patterned lining or add a pop of gothic flair with a statement belt adorned with dark gemstones.
Embracing gothic details like spiderwebs or brocade in black-on-black patterns is another stylish way
to incorporate your love for gothic fashion. Look for garments with intricate lace detailing or subtle gothic motifs
incorporated into the fabric. These small details add a
touch of darkness without overwhelming your overall look.
Don’t be afraid to go bold with statement pieces that reflect your individuality.
Experiment with ruffle shirts, asymmetrical hemlines, or dramatic jewelry to add drama and unique character to your corporate goth outfits.
Remember, the key is to make a statement while still
maintaining a professional appearance.
Let your creativity shine through when combining different gothic elements.
Mix and match textures and patterns to create visually captivating outfits that showcase your personal style.
Consider pairing a sleek leather skirt with a feminine blouse featuring delicate lacework or layering multiple pieces of
silver and black jewelry for a striking effect.

Remember, corporate goth fashion allows you to express your individuality and showcase your love for gothic aesthetics without sacrificing
professionalism. Embrace your personal style and have fun exploring different ways to incorporate gothic elements into your work attire.
Examples of Corporate Goth Outfits:
Outfit Description
A classic pantsuit with a twist – a tailored all-black ensemble
featuring gothic-inspired brocade detailing and accessories.
A sleek knee-length dress in a dark, rich velvet fabric paired with a structured bag
adorned with gothic accents.
A tailored blazer with a subtle spiderweb pattern paired with black trousers and
statement jewelry featuring gothic motifs.
Makeup and Hair for Corporate Goths
Your makeup and hair can also contribute to your overall corporate goth look.
Opt for a more subdued approach to makeup, focusing on **dark eye makeup with a small wing** and a sophisticated lip color like **deep red**.
However, be mindful of your company’s dress code and adjust your makeup accordingly, if
necessary. When it comes to hair, consider maintaining a more
traditional color but experiment with unique hairstyles or accessories that incorporate gothic elements.
For your gothic makeup, start with a flawless base
using a foundation that matches your skin tone. Then, create a smoky
eye effect with black or dark eyeshadow, blending it well for a seamless
look. You can add a small wing to your eyeliner for
a touch of drama. Finish off the look with a dark, vampy lip color like
deep red, burgundy, or plum. Remember to choose long-lasting and smudge-proof
products to maintain your gothic makeup throughout the workday.
When it comes to hair, many corporate goths prefer traditional hair colors such as black, dark brown, or deep red.
This allows you to maintain a professional appearance while still embracing gothic aesthetics.
However, you can still experiment with unique hairstyles to
add a touch of edginess to your look. Consider trying **sleek updos**, **voluminous
curls**, or **braided styles**. Additionally, you
can accessorize your hair with gothic accessories like **hair clips**, **headbands
with spikes or skulls**, or even **feathers** for a more whimsical touch.

Anthony Albanese has tried to claim his relationship with Alan Joyce was a strictly professional one between a Prime Minister and a corporate titan, as he battles claims the Qantas boss was his ‘personal travel agent’ for free flights and upgrades.
However that characterization of the relationship was at odds with that made by Mr Joyce, who said he was ‘good mates’ with Mr Albanese and had been ‘for years’.
In the wake of the explosive claims that the Prime Minister had Mr Joyce arrange free tickets and upgrades, Mr Albanese distanced himself from the Qantas chief.
When asked about about their relationship on Sunday Mr Albanese implied it was purely in a professional capacity, having been Transport Minister and shadow transport spokesperson before becoming Prime Minister.
‘He (Joyce) was the CEO of the national airline … I had the same relationship with him that I have with John Borghetti as the CEO of Virgin,’ Mr Albanese said.
That assessment was at odds with the many photos showing Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce apparently greatly enjoying each other’s company.
Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce were pictured in high spirits on the red carpet at the Qantas 100th Gala Dinner in March last year.
In photos from the event, Mr Joyce proudly walks the red carpet with one arm around the prime minister and the other around Mr Albanese’s partner, Jodie Haydon.
Just five months later, in August, a smiling Mr Albanese attended Qantas’s unveiling of it’s special ‘Yes 23’ emblazoned airplanes for the Voice referendum.
Former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce jovially walked the red carpet with one arm around the prime minister and the other around his partner, Jodie Haydon for a special anniversary event last year
Mr Joyce was seen touching Mr Albanese’s arm, with the PM bursting into laughter.
Even when Scott Morrison was PM, Mr Joyce enjoyed an apparently close relationship with Mr Albanese as the pair stood close together at the launch of the Qantas’ landmark Perth to London flight in March, 2018.
During a Senate hearing in September 2023, Mr Joyce said he had been ‘friends for years’ with Mr Albanese.
Asked about why he gifted Mr Albanese’s son Nathan a membership to the prestigious and exclusive Chairman’s Lounge Mr Joyce refused to confirm or deny but talked up his relationship with the Prime Minister.
‘I’ve been good mates with Albo for some time,’ Mr Joyce said.
However, the then Qantas CEO refused to say whether he lobbied the Prime Minister on the controversial decision to lock competitor Qatar Airways out of domestic routes.
It has since emerged in a new book about Qantas, The Chairman’s Lounge, by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston that Ms Haydon is also a Chairman’s Lounge member.
Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce also appeared to greatly enjoying each other’s company at a Qantas event in August last year

Anthony Albanese fires up and launches a brutal personal attack on book author
Reports have emerged in a new book Mr Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy from Qantas and he would liaise personally with the former airline boss for them.
Aston also alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while in his various parliamentary jobs to ask for special upgrades for himself or his family.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese received upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu, with some being for holidays.
Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that the London flights was for work purposes and all were ‘declared in the appropriate way’.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has leapt on the accusations describing Mr Albanese as being the ‘best friend’ of Mr Joyce.
Mr Dutton told Sky News on Monday night it was ‘strange’ Mr Albanese had directly contacted Mr Joyce to request upgrades while holding a regulatory position in the transport sector.
‘If you’re the Transport Minister and you’re picking up the phone to one of the most important stakeholders in the portfolio asking for a free upgrade, then again, I think the Prime Minister would be able to answer those questions more effectively than anyone else because I’m not aware of anyone else having done it,’ Mr Dutton said.
It has since emerged that Ms Haydon also has membership of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge
The Prime Minister denied frequently asking Mr Joyce for upgrades on Tuesday at press conference in the NSW city of Newcastle.
‘The only discussions that I can recall with Alan Joyce certainly were not discussed through calls – we discussed the first flight from Australia to Dubai on the A380,’ he said.
‘I’ve declared everything in accordance with all of the rules.’
Aston was asked on Monday night by ABC interviewer Sarah Ferguson about how confident he was that Mr Albanese had made calls personally to Mr Joyce for upgrades.
‘I am very comfortable with my sourcing,’ Aston said.
Asked whether he thought Mr Albanese had been influenced by Mr Joyce’s lobbying to block UAE airline Qatar domestically Aston said it was ‘implausible’ to think that the Prime Minister’s office had nothing to do with the decision.
Mr Albanese’s son Nathan, 24, has reportedly also been granted access to the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge (pictured, Mr Albanese and son Nathan in May, 2022)
‘It’s very hard to imagine a decision of any political sensitivity in the Albanese government that would not go through the Prime Minister’s office,’ Aston replied.
He noted the opening up of the Australian domestic market Qatar had seemingly been sailing through with Transport Minister Catherine King speaking warmly about the proposal until ‘everything changed’ to stop it dead in tracks.
Ms King repeatedly denied in parliament the decision to block Qatar was due to Qantas lobbying her or any Labor colleagues.
Despite Mr Albanese claiming he declared every upgrade received from Qantas the Australian Financial Review reported on Tuesday that he failed to do for his former wife Carmel Tebbutt when the two traveled together.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has questioned the alleged personal requests Mr Albanese made to Mr Joyce while in his various parliamentary jobs
Even when Scott Morrison was prime minister, Mr Joyce appeared to have a close relationship with Mr Albanese (the pair are pictured at an event in 2019)
Sky New host Sharri Markson on Monday night labeled Mr Joyce as ‘basically Albanese’s personal travel agent.’
‘This is all a question of integrity. Most Australians struggle to afford even an economy airfare. They’d never be able to afford the luxury of business class. It’s out of our reach,’ she said.
‘Can Albanese truly be impartial when it comes to making decisions about Qantas when he’s been getting tens of thousands of dollars worth of free upgrades to business class? The revelations puts the decision he made as transport minister and prime minister under a cloud.
‘Aside from the integrity issues, this revelation is also politically lethal. Albanese took care to curate a self-image of a housing commission boy who made it. But now the perception is cementing of a long-term pollie enjoying the perks of public office.’
Another awkward paradox of Mr Albanese’s apparent close relationship with Mr Joyce is that the Labor leader in a trade unionist advocate while Qantas attempted to break the power of the Transport Workers Union by sacking 1700 staff during Covid.
The sacking has since been ruled illegal by Federal Court in a case brought by the union with Qantas facing possible hundreds of thousands in compensation payouts.
The friendship however did find one perhaps unlikely defender in semi-retired 3AW radio star Neil Mitchell.
‘Quick test: upgrade Albo is a bad look,’ Mitchell wrote on X.
‘But does anybody believe he was seriously compromised by having Alan Joyce as a bestie? Time to rewrite rules governing politicians.’
WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S CLUB?
The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only club approved by the company chairman, with the guest list a closely-guarded secret.
It has been dubbed ¿the most exclusive club in the country¿ and comes with a distinct black card.
Members include senior-ranking MPs including ministers, state premiers and the Prime Minister, leaders of major unions and sporting groups, Qantas ambassadors, selected A-list celebrities, major corporate figures and high-profile media personalities.
The clubs can be found in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide but are not signed, you have to know where to look.
Inside you will find expensive wood and brass furnishings, wool carpet and marble flooring all bathed in natural light.
Members enjoy fine à la carte dining with a complimentary premium array of beers, spirits and Australian wines. Wine bottles are often given as departing gift
Facilities may also include spas, showers and an assortment of books and magazines.
Members may bring in two guests at a time.
Lounge attendants personally alert you when your flight is to board and your personal preferences are logged for each flight. Membership also entitles you to first-class facilities at Qantas partner airlines.

They are made for two wrists was the answer I got when i DID the worksheet
There are no diameters for squares; let us just make that clear.
Diameter only applies for circles (Line that goes through centre of
circle and touches edges). However, diameters in squares would be simply length(but
went through centre). Therefore it could be anywhere between 15-~21.2132.
(Straight length/width or diagonal or anywhere else.)
Hope this helps 😀

There is a history of smallpox inoculation that goes back as far as 1000 AD in China, Africa, and Turkey.
However, the person credited with creating the first vaccine is
Edward Jenner, an English scientist who pioneered one for smallpox in 1796.
His breakthrough came from taking pus from a blister of someone infected with cowpox and using it to inoculate another person, thus preventing smallpox in that person.
He developed this treatment after hypothesizing that dairy workers were rarely,
if ever, infected with the deadly smallpox virus because most of them were already infected with cowpox, which has
a very mild effect on humans.

The existence of an exclusive hideaway for the country’s movers and shakers where secret
deals were done in private luxury first exploded into the public eye back in 2007.
Back then, the fact that Qantas spent hundreds of thousands
of dollars wining and dining the nation’s political elite
in ultra-exclusive VIP lounges was relatively unknown.
It was a time before Alan Joyce’s tenure as the CEO of Qantas had even started, when he was boss of the comparatively lowly budget
airline, Jetstar.
And unlike Anthony Albanese’s current slide in the polls leading up to an election in next year, the prospects back in 2007
were rosy for Labor.
The election that was looming was the ‘Kevin 07’ landslide that would see Kevin Rudd become prime
minister and John Howard lose his own seat.
The issue which blew open the ‘guilty secret’ of the Chairman’s Lounge then wasn’t
about a prime minister’s privileges, although John Howard and Kevin Rudd were certainly both
members during their terms as PM.
But when broadcaster Steve Price – himself a long time Chairman’s Lounge member –
revealed a politically charged remark made within the club’s hallowed walls, the cat
was out of the bag.
The political revelation – a comment by ex-rock star turned senator Peter Garrett that Labor would change the policies it campaigned on if it won government – did not deter his party from romping
in on election day.
In contrast, the scandal currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt,
and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister.
The exclusive Qantas Chairman’s Lounge (above) has been a well-kept secret for years, but it exploded into the
public conscience in 2007 as the result of
a political furore
Broadcaster Steve Price revealed he had been a Chairman’s Lounge
member since 2002 during a row before the 2007 election won by Kevin Rudd which let the
cat out of the bag about the VIP club
The existence of the lounge was so little known back
in 2007 that in defending his disclosure of Garrett’s remark, Steve Price
had to explain what the private enclave actually was.
In a first person piece he wrote: ‘The Chairman’s Lounge
is a separate frequent flyers lounge away from the crowded normal Qantas Club.
‘As its name implies, the people given access to it
are approved by the Qantas chairman, Margaret Jackson.
‘I have been a Chairman’s Lounge member since 2002.’
In his opinion piece, Price also revealed TV entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins was also a member of lounge.
Wilkins had also been inside at the time and was his only witness to the remark Price said Garrett had made.
Other prominent media figures, such as 60 Minutes reporters, actors and performers, and well-known writers and sports people are said to be among the lounge’s exclusive membership of around 6000.
Price went on to defend himself for reporting what some claimed was a confidential conversation in a private place, but which exposed him to criticism over his own membership for allegedly promoting Qantas
on his radio show.
Back in 2007, Alan Joyce (left) was boss of the comparatively
lowly budget airline Jetstar, and then Qantas CEO Geoff
Dixon (right) had the power over who made the cut
to the Chairman’s Lounge
One observer has described the relationship bet6ween leading
politicians such as PM Anthony Albanese and the former
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce (above) as ‘alarmingly cosy’
‘Why on earth is Qantas giving a controversial shock
jock membership of its Chairman’s Lounge, which is supposedly to enable our
elite politicians and business leaders some privacy from
the hoi polloi?’ demanded Crikey reporter Stephen Mayne at
the time.
‘The Chairman’s Lounge is meant to be all about discretion and confidentiality,’
he said, accusing Price of breaking ‘a confidence’.
The following year, before he was succeeded as Qantas CEO by Alan Joyce, Geoff Dixon was the sole
gatekeeper of entry into the club’s hushed confines.
Qantas Chairman’s Lounge membership was ‘so exclusive that you have to be personally
invited by the airline’s chieftain’, Nine newspapers reported in 2008.
‘A marvellous benefit of lounge membership is that the mega rich and powerful avoid having to mingle with the riffraff who will be travelling cattle class.
‘Having said that, members of the ultra-exclusive club
have included Pauline Hanson.
‘Another lounge member is Brad Cooper, who
is currently enjoying a prolonged exposure to cattle-class in Kirkconnell Correctional Centre.’ (Cooper was the former HIH insurance executive jailed
for eight years on fraud and bribery offences).
Membership of the elite lounge is confined to about 6000
Australians including politicians from both sides, senior public servants,
TV stars and actors
The ‘scandal’ currently engulfing Anthony Albanese about his Chairman’s Lounge membership
and that of his ex-wife Carmel Tebbutt, and their son Nathan could bring down the prime minister (above
the PM with partner Jodie Haydon and ex-Qantas CEO Alan Joyce)
The report noted that politicians declaring membership of the lounge ‘which most of their spouses got too’ in their pecuniary interests that year included Liberal
MPs of the day, Philip Ruddock, Bob Baldwin and Andrew Southcott.
Labor MPs with lounge privileges included Tanya Plibersek, Bob McMullan, and Sharon Grierson, and Martin Ferguson declared a bottle of Grange
hermitage as a gift from Qantas, as did Liberal, Christopher Pyne.
Asked if all MPs got the captain’s pick from Geoff Dixon, the airline’s spokesperson told Nine: ‘We like to retain a bit of mystery. Membership is by invitation only and it is reviewed periodically.’
Fast forward to today, and nearly every single federal politician in the country has accepted free membership of the controversial, invitation-only lounge with one even describing it as an ‘entitlement’.
Qantas and the Albanese government recently denied the ‘very,
very high-end perk’ gives the airline a disproportionate
level of influence over the country’s politicians.
They were commenting ahead of the launch of the new book The Chairman’s
Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston, which
has stirred up the controversy.
A Daily Mail Australia audit of the members’ interest registers – in both Federal Parliament’s
House of Representatives and the Senate
– revealed almost 93 per cent of the nation’s leaders have been ‘gifted’ membership to the lavish,
all-inclusive lounge.
Mr Albanese has defended himself by saying he declared all
his benefits in pecuniary interest statements.
At a press conference this week, he repeated that all of his upgrades ‘have been declared as appropriate.
What’s appropriate is transparency.’
Apart from the PM, members include every one of his 22-person Cabinet,
his seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers.
PM Anthony Albanese and every member of his 22-person Cabinet, his
seven-person Outer Ministry and all 12 assistant ministers are members of

discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants
On the Coalition side of parliament, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton, deputy leader David Littleproud and former deputy Barnaby Joyce are also among the swathes of
politicians who have disclosed they have taken up free membership
to the contentious club.
Bill Shorten is a member, Tanya Plibersek is still a member and so is Teal MP,
Zali Steggall.
Last year it was reported that Australian Competition and Consumer
Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe
Longo and some of their deputies are members of the Chairman’s Lounge despite regulating
the airline.
Senior public servants in the club included Department
of Prime Minister and Cabinet secretary Glyn Davis, deputy secretaries Nadine Williams, Liz Hefren-Webb,
Rachel Bacon and ambassador to Beijing, Scott Dewar.
Other Qantas freebies bestowed on members include numerous business class flight
upgrades, model Qantas aircrafts, frequent flyer points, and tickets to sporting
and entertainment events.
Touted as ‘the most exclusive club in the country’,
membership to the Chairman’s Lounge is still veiled in secrecy.
The new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe
Aston (above) has stirred up the controversy
Australian Competition and Consumer Commission chairwoman Gina Cass-Gottlieb and Australian Securities and Investments Commission chairman Joe Longo are members despite regulating the airline
Even the entrances to each of the country’s
six opulent VIP clubs – in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane,
Adelaide, Canberra and Perth airports – are suitably discreet.
Once inside, however, the designer lounges are noticeably
luxurious, with free à la carte fine dining, table service, a decadent selection of wines and Champagne and
a discreet army of dedicated lounge attendants.
Virgin Airlines has its own version of the VIP enclave, the ‘Beyond’ lounge.
Only a handful of federal politicians have relinquished their membership to the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge in the wake of the furore.
The select few to take a principled stand on the issue include South Australian senator Barbara Pocock and former Wallabies star turned
ACT senator David Pocock, along with MPs Stephen Bates, Queensland Green Elizabeth Watson-Brown, and Monique Ryan, a Teal from Victoria.
Geoffrey Watson SC, a former counsel assisting
the Independent Commission Against Corruption and a director of the Centre for
Public Integrity, has implored all politicians and policymakers to
follow suit.
‘There are certain positions in life where you cannot take Chairman’s Club membership,’ he said.
‘You’re taking public money for the job and you are supposed to represent the
public. Why not sit with them while you’re waiting for a plane?’

Former Malaysia PM Najib Razak is currently in jail after being convicted in one of five
cases related to 1MDB
A Malaysian court on Wednesday allowed corruption charges in one of
several cases linked to the scandal-wracked 1MDB sovereign wealth
fund against jailed ex-prime minister Najib Razak to be dropped, his lawyer said.
Najib is currently in jail after being convicted in one of five
cases related to 1MDB from which billions of dollars had been allegedly pilfered.
He will face another trial from December 2.
Charges dropped Wednesday relates to payments of 6.6 billion ringgit ($1.48
billion) allegedly made to Abu Dhabi’s International Petroleum Investment Company.
“The court correctly exercised its jurisdiction to discharge our client of the charges,” his lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee told
AFP.
“The decision today was based on the non-disclosure of critical documents, six years from the initial charges being read, that are relevant to our client´s preparation of his defence,” Farhan said.
Similarly, Farhan said the Kuala Lumpur High Court also dropped charges against Najib’s ally and
former treasury secretary-general Irwan Serigar Abdullah.
However, prosecutors can seek renewed charges if
they were to disclose the crucial documents that
had been withheld from Najib’s defence, as the court’s decision on Wednesday
did not amount to a full acquittal.
Najib, in October, issued an apology that the 1MDB scandal happened during his
tenure, but maintained he had no knowledge of illegal transfers from
the now-defunct state fund.
Allegations that billions of dollars were stolen from investment vehicle
1MDB and used to buy everything from a super-yacht to artwork played a major
role in prompting voters to oust Najib and the long-ruling United
Malays National Organisation party in 2018 elections.
The 1MDB scandal sparked investigations in the United States, Switzerland and Singapore, where the funds were allegedly laundered.
— Litany of cases –
Najib began serving a 12-year jail term in August 2022 for offences
linked to the misuse of public money from former 1MDB unit SRC International.
The sentence was later halved by Malaysia’s pardons board.
His 1MDB audit tampering trial ended with an acquittal at the High Court
in 2023.
In October, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that 71-year-old will have to defend himself against four counts of abuse of power linked to 2.27 billion ringgit
in alleged bribes and 21 counts of money laundering, involving Tanore Finance Corp.
The trial is slated to get underway on December 2.
Another money laundering trial over 27 million ringgit in funds is set
to commence in April 2025.
The US Justice Department has said more than $4.5 billion was
stolen from 1MDB between 2009 and 2015 by high-level officials at
the fund and their associates.
Najib, the UK-educated son of one of Malaysia’s founding fathers, had been groomed
for the prime minister’s post from a young age.
He set up 1MDB after coming to power in 2009 to bolster economic development, but the fund amassed billions
of dollars in debt.
But Najib’s reputation has been battered not just by
1MDB but other graft controversies.
Najib was linked to allegations of huge kickbacks in a 2002 purchase of
French submarines while defence minister, a case later connected to the 2006 murder of a Mongolian woman — Altantuya Shaariibuu — involved in the deal.
He steadfastly denied wrongdoing.

A source close to the couple told In Touch that ‘there are a lot of assets on both sides, and a prenup
will just make everything clear.’
Gaga ‘is worth $900 million, so of course there needs to
be a prenup in place,’ the insider said. ‘And Michael understands that.
He’s not resisting it.’

Audacious, different, bold and brilliant!
Joker: Folie a Deux is a punchline five years in the making,
and boy is it worth the wait, writes BRIAN VINER
Five years have passed since the triumphant opening of Joker at the Venice Film Festival.
I still vividly remember reeling out of a morning screening, dazzled less by the unforgiving
glare of the Venetian sun than by the movie we’d just been shown.
Five years have passed since the triumphant opening of Joker at the Venice Film Festival.
I still vividly remember reeling out of a morning screening, dazzled less by the unforgiving glare of the Venetian sun than by the movie we’d just been shown.
Last night, here in Venice, came the world premiere of the sequel, Joker: Folie a Deux The director is again Todd Phillips, with Joaquin Phoenix once more in the title role,
this time joined by Lady Gaga as what I suppose we must call the
love interest, although that would undervalue her wonderful performance.
The film is audaciously different in style from the original,
not quite as electrifying, but bold and brilliant all the same.
It begins with a kind of sinister jauntiness with a Joker animation in the
style of a Tom & Jerry cartoon, to show that since the events of the first
movie, Arthur Fleck along with his murderous alter
ego has become a cultural phenomenon in Gotham City.
There has even been a TV movie about him.
Joaquin Phoenix is once more in the title role,
this time joined by Lady Gaga as what I suppose we must call

Joker: Folie a Deux is released on October 4, 2024
and will premiere at the 81st annual Venice Film Festival
But Arthur is behind bars, waiting to see whether he will be
judged sane enough to stand trial for murder, and in the meantime enjoying his celebrity status both with
fellow prisoners and even the warders, one of whom, a sadistic
Irishman played by Brendan Gleeson, feeds him cigarettes in return for jokes.
Lady Gaga plays Lee, a fellow inmate on her way, we suppose, to becoming Joker’s girlfriend Harley
Quinn. The pair hit it off at a music therapy
class, and are soon mutually smitten, but Lee makes it
clear that she loves the dangerously charismatic Joker, ‘clown prince of crime’,
not the gloomily introspective Arthur.
Indeed, identity confusion is the theme of this film, which delves even deeper than the original into schizophrenia and other types of mental illness.
It’s been said that Folie a Deux is a musical. It’s not,
but music looms large as an expression of Arthur and Lee’s burgeoning love for
one another. It is while watching Vincente Minnelli’s 1953 classic The Band Wagon that Lee, who claims to have been imprisoned
for arson, sets fire to their prison wing.
The ensuing chaos provides an excellent opportunity to escape, yet
Phillips and his co-writer Scott Silver toy with our expectations throughout; each time we anticipate which way the narrative is going to go, it confounds us
by wheeling off in another direction.
The music is a constant, though, with Lady Gaga giving
her interpretation of lovely old Burt Bacharach and even Motown numbers, and Phoenix
more than holding his own. There are also a couple of swooning dance routines that make Arthur and Lee look like
psychotic versions of Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone
in La La Land.
Eventually, after Arthur’s high-profile TV
appearance with a smug interviewer played by Steve Coogan,
it is time for the trial, with all of Gotham gripped by the subject
of multiple personality disorder.
Is Arthur the defendant accused of five murders, or is it Joker?
His kindly lawyer (Catherine Keener) wants to make clear it is
Arthur; Lee just as urgently wants him to identify as Joker.

For those cinema-goers who consider Joker: Folie a Deux to be just another unnecessary Batman spin-off, you should maybe think again
All this is compellingly directed by Phillips, and superbly acted
by Phoenix especially, in a role for which he seems
custom-made, but by Gaga too. We’ve known since A Star is Born in 2018
that she can act, but she really is terrific in a bad-girl role.
They’d have loved her at St Trinians.
As for those cinema-goers who consider Joker: Folie
a Deux to be just another unnecessary Batman spin-off, you should maybe think again.
This might not quite be in the top rank of films about mental illness, alongside all-time greats such as Psycho and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
But it’s not too far off.
Joker: Folie a Deux opens in the UK on October 4, 2024.

Paul Mescal is making his long-awaited return to the West End stage –
but his devoted fans seem to be paying the price.
The Irish actor, 28, is set to reprise his starring role in Tennessee Williams’s A Streetcar Named Desire for a limited
West End run in February 2025.
Paul walked away from the play with a prestigious Olivier Award
in hand as critics praised him for bringing a fresh ‘swagger’ to the role of Stanley Kowalski.
Now, fans of the Normal People star have been left scrambling for tickets
to see the hunky actor before the acclaimed production moves to Broadway.
But many have been left aghast by the eyewatering prices of the tickets remaining.
At the time of publication, providers such as TodayTix were advertising seats in both the stalls and
royal circle of the Noël Coward Theatre for a flat rate of £250.
All cheaper tickets had been sold out.
‘I wanna go see Paul Mescal in A Streetcar Named Desire but there is no way I’m paying those prices,’ one fan wrote on X.
She added: ‘We moan about gig tickets being extortionate but theatre
tickets are going the same way!’
Paul Mescal stars as Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire alongside co-star Patsy Ferran
A second tweeted: ‘I love the theatre and supports the arts where I
can afford but I cannot listen to how they are struggling for funding or getting people to go to
shows anymore when a three-week long running play with Paul Mescal is selling tickets for a minimum of £250 each!
How is this justifiable?’
Another fan said they were in a ‘bad mood’ after seeing the price tag
on the sought-after seats, while others likened the ticketing
experience to Taylor Swift and Oasis.
TodayTix has been contacted for comment.
Directed by Rebecca Frecknell, the dark and uncompromising new production revolves around
Blanche Dubois and her rough-handed husband Stanley.
It opened to critical acclaim, with Paul citing it as his favourite
play despite his initial doubts about stepping into the role made famous by Marlon Brando.
‘The anxiety is definitely attached to it being done so famously well, but I’m thinking
that will go away,’ the Irish heartthrob said.
After completing a sold-out run of the play in early 2023, Paul admitted to Vanity Fair that he fell ill
before his final weekend shows and he had to get a steroid shot in order to continue.
Paul said: ‘I lost my voice entirely on the last weekend.
I got sick on the Thursday and it’s just – any sickness that gets into your body when you’re having to do that, I was
wrecked.
‘So I had to take a steroid shot in my a** on Saturday to get through the
two shows. I got through by the skin of my teeth.’

Fans have taken to X to express their outrage at the eyewatering
prices of the tickets
Paul won the Olivier Award for Best Actor at The Royal Albert Hall in April
2023
The ticketing fiasco comes after Paul turned
his new movie Gladiator II into a musical during his hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live
this weekend.
The 28-year-old Irish actor is the leading man of the blood-soaked new historical epic, with a cast that includes Denzel Washington and
Pedro Pascal.
However, in one of the sketches on Saturday Night Live, Paul and longtime show cast member
Kenan Thompson put a goofy spin on the storyline.

Paul Mescal turns Gladiator II into a musical on SNL and fans are all saying the same thing
The premise of the skit was that Moana 2 and Wicked: Part One have proven to be such
monster successes that Gladiator II might also get a publicity
boost if it were a musical.
‘After some rushed reshoots,’ 50 minutes of songs have been added to the movie – a sly
nod to the lengthy two hour and 40 minute running time of the Wicked film.
Saturday’s sketch allowed Paul to show off his singing skills to full advantage – and fans have gone wild over his
impressive crooning and dancing.
The Irish hunk has also chosen to sell his Gladiator press tour wardrobe on Vinted – with all the proceeds going to charity.
The award-winning actor is selling his shoes, jeans, jumpers and caps.
Prices start at £160 and will be live from December
16.
The hand-picked collection includes one-off pieces that were custom-made for Paul as well
as everyday luxury pieces from brands including Jimmy
Choo, Av Vattev and B.W. Marks.
Paul Mescal will put his Gladiator press tour wardrobe on Vinted – with all the proceeds going to charity.
The collection includes this cashmere crewneck jumper, which
will go on sale for £575
Also up for sales is this custom hand painted knit henley made
by emerging designer B.W Marks, which Paul wore in Sydney.
It will go on sale at £250
‘Paul has always had a strong connection to vintage and pre-loved fashion,’ Felicity Kay, his stylist, said.
‘He’s often eager to rewear pieces we’ve styled before or items from his own wardrobe.
‘Partnering with Vinted for Paul’s Gladiator II promotion tour made perfect sense as it gave us
the opportunity to delve deep into his love for second-hand clothes – in fact, I found a
pair of Ben Davis workpants on Vinted, they fit Paul like a dream – no adjustments needed!
They became one of his favourite pieces during the tour.
‘But we were equally both excited about finding a way to give the clothes
he wore during his tour a second life, so selling them on Vinted felt like the perfect fit, especially with the added bonus of supporting a good cause.’

Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are asking voter to choose between an immigration crackdown and reproductive rights
As their race for the US presidency comes down to the wire, each major
candidate has leaned heavily on a favorite theme — abortion rights for Democrat Kamala Harris and
border security for Republican Donald Trump.
In Arizona, their ideological duel has reached a white-hot peak,
with both topics the subject of fiercely debated
ballot referendums.
And in this key southwestern state — where the billionaire Trump lost to President Joe Biden in 2020 by a tiny margin of about 10,500 votes — every ballot truly will count.
In the mid-sized city of Tucson, hundreds of volunteers in orange T-shirts were going door-to-door to try to persuade
voters to back a ballot measure to inscribe abortion rights in the
state constitution — and, while they’re at it, to vote for Vice President Harris.
To Grace Ireland, a 26-year-old activist,
the abortion restrictions imposed by several Republican-controlled states amount to “a public health crisis that Donald Trump and the Republicans have created.”
She added, “Democrats and Kamala Harris are trying to push us forward and protect women’s health care and protect our democracy and protect all people.”
Une pancarte barrée du slogan “L’indifférence aux élections est dangereuse”, à Tucson, en Arizona, le 16 octobre 2024
Since 2022, when the US Supreme Court ended the constitutional protection of federal abortion rights,
Ireland, a registered nurse, has worked in several states
where abortion is banned or severely limited.
Those restrictions have had sometimes disastrous consequences for women having problem pregnancies or carrying nonviable fetuses when doctors refuse to treat them.
“Women are going septic and dying because they cannot receive the care that they need,”
she told AFP.
– ‘Abortion is murder’ –
As Ireland carries her message to potential voters, she noted, particularly to young people who may be less likely to vote, that it was Donald Trump who appointed the three justices who tipped the Supreme Court against abortion rights.
Donald Trump lors d’un meeting à Tempe, en Arizona, le 24 octobre 2024
“It’s important to reiterate that Donald Trump and these abortion bans are one and the same,” Ireland said.
But in Tucson there is little unanimity among young voters.
“I do think that abortion is murder,” said Pedro Lopez, a 20-year-old college student.
“There are cases of incest or rape” that merit exceptions, he conceded, “but that’s very small.”
He also worries about the flow of undocumented migrants that have entered the
country from Mexico during the Biden-Harris administration.
“People that are entering the United States illegally… should be sent back to where they came from,”
he said.
“My grandparents migrated from Mexico to the United States, and they did it the right way.”
So he plans not only to vote for Trump, but
to back the proposal to let local law enforcement detain, arrest
and prosecute anyone suspected of having entered the country illegally —
powers normally reserved to the border police who work for the federal government.
“I know people that work for the Border Patrol, and they’re really upset because this current administration has really tied their hands up. They’re not really able to do anything,” Lopez said.
– Mixed impact –
The major political parties see the competing referendums
as offering an opportunity to mobilize more people to vote —
on ballot questions at the very heart of the two presidential campaigns.
Anti-abortion activists demonstrate outside a
clinic in Phoenix, Arizona on April 18, 2024
But the referendums may not have the clear impact on the race for the White House that activists hope.
Polls show Trump and Harris running neck-and-neck in Arizona, with the Republican holding a
very narrow lead.
Both ballot questions, meantime, have drawn strong
support and both appear likely to pass.
So the abortion issue may not be “helping Democrats in the way that they would hope,” said Jenny Brian, a professor of bioethics at Arizona State University.
Many Republican women will vote both to protect abortion rights and to bring Trump back to the White House,
Brian said.
Though abortion is sometimes framed as a Democrat vs.
Republican issue, the Republican Party includes “a broad spectrum of views on the topic,”
an issue that also raises conservatives’ concerns about “government interference,” she added.
The same dynamic applies to immigration, with the tougher language
on the Arizona ballot question finding support not just among Trump Republicans but also
“moderates and even many Democrats,” said John Kavanagh, a Republican and an Arizona state senator.
The 74-year-old Kavanagh is unimpressed by Harris’s recent toughening on migration, specifically her promise to maintain the partial closing of the border Biden ordered in recent months.
The vice president, Kavanagh said, is “running away faster from her open-border policy than an illegal immigrant that runs away from the Border Patrol.”

Do Greens and crossbenchers who claim that transparency and integrity is
at the heart of their reason for entering Parliament in the first place hear themselves?
In the past few days they have mounted self-serving arguments against proposed electoral reforms that the
major parties look set to come together to support.
The reforms include caps for how much money wealthy individuals can donate, caps on the amount candidates can spend in individual
electorates to prevent the equivalent of an arms race, and a $90million limit on what any party can spend at an election – actually less than the major parties currently spend.
The proposed new laws also include lower disclosure thresholds for donations,
thus increasing the transparency of who makes political donations in the first place.
So the wealthy wont be able to hide behind anonymity while using their
cash to influence election outcomes – and the extent to which they can use their wealth
at all will be limited.
The bill will further improve transparency by also increasing the
speed and frequency that disclosures of donations need to
be made.
At present we have the absurd situation in which donations get made
– but you only find out the details of who has given what to whom many months later, well
after elections are won and lost.
In other words, what is broadly being proposed will result in much greater
transparency and far less big money being injected into campaigning by
the wealthy.
Teal Kylea Tink claimed the major parties were ‘running scared’ with the policy and warned the reform would ‘not stop the rot’
Greens senate leader Larissa Waters (left) fired a warning shot – saying if it serves only the major parties ‘it’s a rort, not reform’. Teal independent ACT senator David Pocock (right) said: ‘What seems to be happening is a major-party stitch-up’
Anyone donating more than $1,000 to a political party, as opposed to
$16,000 under the current rules, will need to disclose having done so.
And how much they can donate will be capped.
Yet the Greens and Teals have quickly condemned the proposed new laws, labeling them a ‘stitch-up’, ‘outrageous’ and ‘a rort, not a reform’.
They have lost their collective minds after finding out that Labor’s proposal just might secure the
support of the opposition.
I had to double check who was criticising what exactly before even starting to write this column.
Because I had assumed – incorrectly – that these important transparency measures stamping out the influence of the wealthy must have been proposed by the virtue-signalling Greens or the corruption-fighting Teals, in a united crossbench effort to drag the major
parties closer to accountability.
More fool me.
The bill, designed to clean up a rotten system, is being put forward by Labor and is opposed by a growing
cabal of crossbenchers.
It makes you wonder what they have to hide. Put simply, the Greens
and Teals doth protest too much on this issue.
Labor is thought to be trying to muscle out major political
donors such as Clive Palmer
Another potential target of the laws is businessman and Teal funder Simon Holmes à Court
The Greens have taken massive donations in the past,
contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules (Greens leader Adam Bandt and Senator Mehreen Faruqi are pictured)
The major parties have long complained about the influence
the likes of Simon Holmes à Court wields behind the scenes amongst the Teals.
And we know the Greens have taken massive donations from the wealthy in the past, contrary to their irregular calls to tighten donations rules.
Now that tangible change has been proposed, these bastions of virtue are running a mile from reforms that will
curtail dark art of political donations.
The Labor government isn’t even seeking for these transparency rules to take effect immediately, by the way.
It won’t be some sort of quick-paced power
play before the next election designed to catch
the crossbench out.
They are aiming for implementation by 2026, giving everyone enough time to absorb and understand the changes before preparing for
them.
Don’t get me wrong, no deal has yet been done between Labor and the Coalition. I imagine
the opposition want to go over the laws with a fine tooth comb.
As they should – because it certainly isn’t beyond
Labor to include hidden one-party advantages in the proposed design which would create loopholes only the unions are capable of taking advantage of, therefore disadvantaging the Coalition electorally in the years to
come.
But short of such baked-in trickiness scuttling a deal to get these proposed laws implemented,
the crossbench should offer their support, not cynical opposition, to what is being advocated
for.
They might even be able to offer something worthwhile that
could be incorporated in the package.
To not do so exposes their utter hypocrisy and blowhard false commentary about being in politics to ‘clean things up’.

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appeal. I must say you have done a superb job with this. Additionally, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Opera. Outstanding Blog!
Hello! I could have sworn I’ve been to this blog before but after browsing through some of the post I realized it’s new to me. Anyways, I’m definitely happy I found it and I’ll be book-marking and checking back frequently!
I was skeptical yon CBD at commencement, but after trying them like thc delta 9 gummies, I’m unqualifiedly impressed. They presentation a commodious and enjoyable sense to take CBD without any hassle. I’ve noticed a calming object, outstandingly in the evenings, which has helped with both significance and sleep. The pre-eminent generally is the pre-measured dosage, so there’s no guessing involved. If you’re looking for an easy and ambrosial acknowledge proceeding to know CBD, gummies are plainly value considering—nothing but cut steady to gain from a honourable brand!
