8:25 PM – Employees at Starbucks on Rock Road reported that a man entered their store and attempted to pay for a purchase with a counterfeit $100 bill.  The staff refused to accept the bill, and returned it to the man who quickly left the store.  The suspect had left the area before police were notified and staff members were unable to access the store’s video surveillance system.  The detective bureau is currently reviewing the matter.

6:08 AM –  A Yardley Court resident reported that his 2015 Jeep Cherokee had been stolen from his driveway overnight.  The Jeep had been parked in the resident’s driveway with the doors unlocked and the key fob in the center console.

The vehicle was recovered by the Newark Police Department just after 6 PM, no arrests were made by Newark PD.   The victim declined to cooperate with a further investigation by Glen Rock detectives and responded to claim his vehicle in Newark.

This is the second vehicle stolen from Glen Rock under similar circumstances over a one week period.   Glen Rock as well as the surrounding towns have again been experiencing a rash of stolen vehicles overnight from driveways. All vehicles that are being stolen have the KEY FOBS LEFT INSIDE making it extremely easy for thieves to steal them. Please remember to remove your keys or key fobs from your vehicles and lock the doors.

4:57 PM – Following a three-week investigation into a credit fraud report made by a Glen Rock resident, Det. Mike Trover arrested a 29-year-old Memphis Tennessee man for identity theft, fraudulent use of credit cards and forgery.  The actor had obtained the resident’s credit card information and was using it to make purchases at multiple locations in Woodland Park, Hawthorne, Midland Park, Clifton and North Haledon.  With the cooperation of merchants at these locations, video surveillance, Port Authority bridge crossing records and automated license plate readers in use by various law enforcement agencies, Det. Trover was able to trace the actor’s vehicle to an address in Union.  The arrest was made shortly thereafter.

The actor was processed at Glen Rock Police Headquarters and ordered released on his own recognizance in accordance with New Jersey’s new bail reform system.  He is scheduled to appear before the Superior Court Central Judicial Processing on November 17th, 2017.

11:15 AM – A Glen Rock couple who were jogging through town called 9-1-1 reporting that they were being followed by a suspicious male as they ran through numerous streets.  The man, who was riding a bicycle, reportedly continued to follow them even after they made unexpected turns and appeared to be circling them as they waited for officers at a gas station.

Officers were able to locate the subject, a 35-year-old Hawthorne man, who alleged that he was merely out riding his bicycle along public streets and his presence at the same locations as the couple was nothing more than a coincidence.  The man was warned that further actions of this nature could be considered as an act of harassment.  As there were no lawful grounds to further detain the man, he was released once it was determined that there were no active warrants for his arrest.

The couple was encouraged to notify police if there is any repeated conduct of this nature.

1:29 PM –  A Glen Rock resident reported that his Chase Bank savings account had been compromised.  He had discovered that over the last week, between October 31st and November 3rd, a total of three unauthorized transactions amounting to $15,000 had occurred.  All of the transactions appear to have been online transfers which have been reported to the bank.  The detective bureau is currently reviewing the matter.
