The man, who was riding a bicycle, reportedly continued to follow them even after they made unexpected turns and appeared to be circling them as they waited for officers at a gas station.
Officers were able to locate the subject, a 35-year-old Hawthorne man, who alleged that he was merely out riding his bicycle along public streets and his presence at the same locations as the couple was nothing more than a coincidence. As there were no lawful grounds to further detain the man, he was released once it was determined that there were no active warrants for his arrest.
