Hit or Miss Showers and Storms Bring Under a Quarter Inch of Rain to Houston, Galveston, and Southeast Texas Before Strong Fall Front Arrives Tuesday

HOUSTON — Houston will see slightly lower humidity today before atmospheric moisture ramps up again on Friday and Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms are possible, especially on Saturday, but rain is expected to be hit or miss across the region. Most areas look to pick up less than a quarter inch through early Sunday, with better rain chances arriving Tuesday alongside a strong fall cold front.

Houston Area Rain Totals Mostly Stay Between 0.12 and 0.17 Inch

Rainfall projections through early Sunday show most of the Houston metro picking up around 0.12 to 0.17 inch. Areas west of the city come in near 0.12 to 0.13 inch, while central and southern parts of the metro are closer to 0.16 to 0.17 inch.

North of Houston, totals range from about 0.13 to 0.16 inch, with a slightly wetter pocket to the northeast near 0.25 inch. Because the rain will be scattered, some neighborhoods may see a quick downpour while others stay mostly dry.

Galveston and the Upper Texas Coast Pick Up Slightly Higher Amounts

Coastal areas are projected to see somewhat higher totals than inland locations. Galveston is expected to receive around 0.20 inch, while parts of the coastline to the southwest and northeast come in near 0.23 inch.

The heaviest rain is expected to stay offshore over the Gulf, where totals near 0.86 to 0.92 inch are shown, with a maximum close to 1 inch. Toward the Beaumont and Port Arthur area, totals look lighter at roughly 0.11 to 0.14 inch.

Areas West of Houston Stay Among the Driest Through the Weekend

Several locations west and northwest of Houston could see very little rain through early Sunday. Totals in these areas are projected at only 0.08 to 0.11 inch, with some pockets possibly staying almost completely dry.

Saturday offers the best chance for showers and storms in the near term, but coverage will be spotty. Residents with weekend or Halloween plans should keep an eye on radar, though widespread washouts are not expected.

Strong Fall Front Brings Better Rain Chances on Tuesday

A strong fall cold front is expected to move through Southeast Texas on Tuesday, bringing a better chance for more widespread rain. The front should also usher in noticeably cooler and drier air behind it, giving the region a true taste of fall.

Forecast details for Tuesday’s front may still shift over the coming days. Residents should continue checking updated forecasts, especially for commutes and outdoor plans early next week.
