Weekend Rain Up to 2.6 Inches and Possible Storms Target Florida Including Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and Jacksonville With Sunday the Wettest Day

FLORIDA — Rain chances are increasing this weekend across the Southeast, with Florida expected to see the most significant totals. A weak system will keep Saturday’s rain mostly west of the Sunshine State before shifting the heavier rain into Florida on Sunday. Rainfall totals of 1 to more than 2 inches are possible along parts of the Atlantic coast through Monday morning, and a few storms could be mixed in.

Florida’s Atlantic Coast Shows the Highest Totals Near 2 to 2.6 Inches

The heaviest rain in Florida is focused along the Atlantic coast, where totals near 2 to 2.6 inches are showing up from the Daytona Beach area south toward Melbourne and the Space Coast. This corridor stands out as the wettest part of the state through Monday morning.

Farther north, the northeast Florida coast near Jacksonville is projected to pick up around 1.3 to 1.9 inches. Southeast Florida also gets in on the rain, with totals of roughly 1.2 to 1.7 inches possible toward the Palm Beach and Miami areas.

Tampa Bay, Southwest Florida, and the Panhandle See Lighter Amounts

The Gulf side of Florida is expected to see lower totals, with the Tampa Bay area around 1 inch. Southwest Florida trends even lighter, with totals closer to 0.4 to 0.8 inch in many spots.

The Florida Panhandle is projected to see around 0.6 to 1 inch of rain. Heavier rain is also shown offshore over the Gulf, where the strongest bands of moisture are expected to stay mainly over open water.

Saturday Rain Stays West Across Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana

Saturday’s rain is expected to remain west of Florida, spreading across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Totals across these states look lighter, mostly in the 0.2 to 0.5 inch range, with pockets near 0.6 to 0.8 inch in southern Alabama.

Georgia and South Carolina are also expected to see light rain, with most areas between 0.2 and 0.5 inch. The system then moves east, bringing its heaviest rain into Florida on Sunday as moisture increases near the coast.

Timing Remains Tricky With Some Storms Possible on Sunday

The exact timing of Sunday’s rain is still uncertain, and the heaviest bands could shift as the weekend gets closer. A few thunderstorms may develop within the rain, especially along the Atlantic coast where the highest totals are expected.

Residents with outdoor plans on Sunday should keep an eye on updated forecasts and have a backup plan ready. Drivers should prepare for wet roads, ponding in low-lying areas, and reduced visibility during heavier downpours.
