GEORGIA — November begins with a new weather pattern across Georgia, as rain falls across north Georgia for the first time in about three weeks. Scattered showers will continue off and on through the day, bringing a damp start to the new month. Cool and breezy conditions will also settle in, with afternoon temperatures for many areas staying in the upper 50s and low 60s.
Scattered Showers Move Across North Georgia Through the Day
Rain began falling Sunday morning across north Georgia, marking the first meaningful showers in roughly three weeks. Forecast maps for 1 p.m. show scattered showers near Blairsville, Calhoun, Rome, and areas along the Tennessee border near Chattanooga.
Additional showers are expected to pop up across the region through the afternoon, with spotty activity near Gainesville and northeast Georgia. Rain will not be continuous, with dry breaks expected between rounds of showers.
Atlanta Metro Sees Spotty Showers Between Dry Breaks
Light showers are possible across the Atlanta metro at times on Sunday, though coverage will be scattered rather than widespread. Areas west of the city, including Carrollton, could also see a few passing showers during the afternoon.
Rain amounts are expected to stay light for most locations. Drivers should still be ready for wet roads, as the first rain after a long dry stretch can make pavement slick from built-up oil and debris.
Showers Also Possible South Toward Griffin, LaGrange, and Macon
Scattered showers are not limited to north Georgia, as a few spots farther south may also see rain. Forecast maps show light showers near Griffin, LaGrange, Eatonton, and around the Macon area by early afternoon.
Most of central Georgia will see only brief, light rain where showers develop. Areas east toward Athens and Augusta are expected to stay mainly dry, with only isolated showers possible during the day.
Cool and Breezy Conditions Keep Highs in the Upper 50s and Low 60s
Northeast winds will keep Sunday feeling cool and breezy across north and central Georgia. Many areas, including Atlanta, are expected to stay in the upper 50s and low 60s through the afternoon, a noticeable change from the warm temperatures of late October.
Residents should dress in layers and keep a light rain jacket handy for any outdoor plans. Clouds and passing showers will keep temperatures from climbing much, making it one of the chillier days of the fall season so far.
