May-Like Warmth Up to 84 Degrees Hits North Carolina Including Fayetteville, Raleigh, and Charlotte With Isolated Morning Fog Before a Cooler Halloween Weekend

NORTH CAROLINA — Temperatures heat up even more across North Carolina on Friday, with highs reaching the 70s and low 80s for most areas. The warmth will feel more like May than the final days of October, with partly to mostly sunny skies and light north winds of 3 to 10 mph. Isolated fog is possible in the east early, but the day will stay tranquil before cooler temperatures arrive for Halloween.

Sandhills and Coastal Plain Lead the State With Highs Near 83 to 84 Degrees

The warmest temperatures are expected across the Sandhills and Coastal Plain, where Fayetteville and Pinehurst reach 84 degrees. Sanford, Clinton, Lumberton, Whiteville, Wilson, Clayton, Goldsboro, Rocky Mount, and Greenville all climb to around 83 degrees.

Kinston and Laurinburg come in near 82 degrees, while Monroe in the southern Piedmont also reaches 83 degrees. These readings are well above normal for late October and among the warmest of the week.

Raleigh, Charlotte, Greensboro, and the Piedmont Reach the Low 80s

The Triangle and Piedmont will also see unseasonably warm weather, with Raleigh reaching 82 degrees and Durham near 81 degrees. Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Mooresville, Asheboro, and Mebane all climb to around 81 degrees.

Farther north, Roxboro, Oxford, and Danbury reach 79 to 80 degrees, while Norlina, Halifax, and Roanoke Rapids come in near 81 degrees. Statesville reaches 80 degrees, and Hickory and Mount Airy top out near 78 degrees.

Mountains Range From the Upper 60s to Near 80 Degrees

The mountains will stay cooler but still pleasant, with Asheville and Marion reaching 78 degrees. Higher elevations, including Boone, Spruce Pine, Highlands, and Cashiers, stay in the upper 60s, while Banner Elk reaches about 70 degrees and Sparta near 72 degrees.

Lower valleys in the southwest mountains warm up more, with Murphy and Shelby near 80 degrees and Robbinsville and Sylva around 79 degrees. Cherokee and Hot Springs reach the mid 70s under partly sunny skies.

Coast Stays Milder Before Cooler Air Arrives for Halloween

Coastal areas will be a bit milder, with Wilmington near 80 degrees and Jacksonville at 81 degrees. The Outer Banks stay in the 70s, including Corolla at 73 degrees, Manteo and Hatteras near 74 degrees, Ocracoke at 75 degrees, and Morehead City around 76 degrees.

High-level clouds will move in across the state later in the day, but Friday evening should be great for outdoor activities. Cooler temperatures are expected for Halloween, so trick-or-treaters should plan for a noticeably cooler night than Friday.
