DALLAS, TX — Ensemble guidance is coming into agreement that a strong cold front will arrive across Texas by next weekend. Until then, North Texas will see plenty of sunshine with highs from 88 to 92 degrees through next Wednesday. Rain chances return Thursday through Saturday next week ahead of and along the front. Behind it, a true fall air mass is expected to clear the entire state between October 16 and October 18.
Hot and Sunny Pattern Continues Through Next Wednesday
North Texas will stay warm and dry through the middle of next week. Highs are expected to range from 88 to 92 degrees with plenty of sunshine each day.
These temperatures are well above normal for mid-October. The heat will hold until the cold front begins approaching late next week.
Rain Chances Return Thursday Through Saturday Next Week
Rain chances are expected to return Thursday through Saturday next week as the front approaches. Showers and storms could develop ahead of and along the front as it moves across the state.
Exact rain amounts and timing remain uncertain this far out. Residents should keep an eye on forecast updates as the front’s arrival gets closer.
West Texas and the Permian Basin See the Biggest Temperature Drop
Temperature projections show some of the largest drops below average across West Texas. Odessa is forecast to run about 22 degrees below average, with Lubbock near 21 degrees below and Amarillo near 19 degrees below.
Farther west, Ciudad Juarez is projected about 23 degrees below average and Albuquerque about 18 degrees below. That signals a deep push of cold air across the southern Plains and Southwest.
Dallas, San Antonio, and Houston Also Turn Much Cooler
San Antonio is forecast to run about 20 degrees below average, while Dallas comes in around 16 degrees below normal. Houston is projected about 13 degrees below average as the front pushes to the coast.
Neighboring areas also turn cooler, with Shreveport near 15 degrees below average and Oklahoma City and Little Rock near 13 degrees below. New Orleans stays slightly above average, near 5 degrees warmer than normal.
First Statewide Fall Front of the Season Could Bring Sweater Weather
Texas has not yet seen a cold front this fall that clears the entire state. This front is expected to be the first to push all the way through, bringing a noticeable change in temperatures.
Residents across Texas may want to have jackets and sweaters ready for the weekend of October 16 through 18. Forecasters will continue fine-tuning the timing and temperatures over the coming days.
