3 to 7 Inches of Rain With Localized 12-Inch Totals Target New Orleans, Mobile, Tallahassee, and Houston as Gulf Coast Deluge Lasts Seven Days

NEW ORLEANS, LA — Heavy downpours are expected at times across the Gulf Coast and the South over the next seven days. A widespread 3 to 7 inches of rain is forecast, with localized totals reaching 8 to 12 inches. Some spots could see half a foot to a foot of rain by the end of the period. Flooding is possible at times as repeated rounds of heavy rain move through the region.

Heaviest Rain Focuses Along the Central Gulf Coast

The highest totals on the seven-day outlook are centered along the central Gulf Coast, from Louisiana through the Florida Panhandle. New Orleans, Houma, Mobile, Crestview, and Tallahassee all fall within the zone of 4 to 7 inches or more.

The most extreme amounts, near 10 inches, are focused just offshore over the northern Gulf. Coastal areas closest to that core stand the best chance of seeing localized totals in the 8 to 12-inch range.

Texas Coast and Houston Area Sit in the Heavy Rain Zone

Heavy rain also extends along the Texas coast, including Houston, Angleton, Beaumont, and Corpus Christi. Totals of 3 to 5 inches are shown across much of southeast and south Texas, with higher pockets possible.

Farther inland, Austin, San Antonio, and Conroe also fall within the 3 to 4-inch range. Amounts drop off sharply toward Dallas, Fort Worth, and north Texas, where much lighter totals are expected.

Florida and South Georgia Brace for Widespread Soaking Rain

Much of the Florida peninsula is in line for 3 to 7 inches, including Gainesville, Jacksonville, Tampa, and Sebring. Fort Myers and areas around West Palm Beach also see heavier totals, while amounts ease somewhat near Miami.

South Georgia is also in the heavy rain zone, with Albany, Dothan, Brunswick, and Savannah showing 3 to 5 inches. Totals extend up the coast toward Charleston, South Carolina, as well.

Lighter Totals Inland Across Arkansas, Mississippi, and North Georgia

Rain amounts taper off farther inland across northern Louisiana, Arkansas, and central Mississippi. Shreveport, Monroe, Pine Bluff, and Greenville fall in a zone of lighter totals compared with the coast.

Birmingham, Atlanta, and areas into Tennessee and the Carolinas show around 2 to 3 inches over the seven days. These amounts are still meaningful but far less than what is forecast along the Gulf Coast.

Flooding Possible as Rain Repeats Over the Same Areas

With multiple rounds of heavy downpours expected, flooding is possible at times across the Gulf Coast and South. Areas that see repeated storms over the same locations face the highest risk of rising water.

Low-lying neighborhoods, poor drainage areas, and roads near creeks and bayous are especially prone to flooding. Residents should monitor local forecasts closely throughout the week and avoid driving through flooded roadways.
