DALLAS, TX — Saturday is shaping up as the coolest day in months across North and East Texas, with clouds and rain hanging around. Highs are expected to reach only the mid-70s as scattered light rain moves north across the region. Pockets of moderate rain are developing at times, especially east and southeast of Dallas. Despite the rainy week, Lake Lavon has risen only about a foot as most of the rain has soaked into the ground.
Scattered Light Rain Moves North Across the Metroplex
Radar at 7:34 AM Saturday showed scattered light rain across much of the Dallas and Fort Worth area. Rain was falling over Fort Worth, Dallas, Cedar Hill, Burleson, Cleburne, and Waxahachie as it drifted north.
Some areas, including Plano, Frisco, and parts of Denton, were seeing gaps in the rain at the time. The light rain is expected to keep moving north through the morning, bringing wet roads across much of the metroplex.
Moderate Rain Pockets Develop Near Wills Point and Sulphur Springs
Heavier pockets of moderate rain were showing up east of Dallas near Wills Point, West Tawakoni, and Emory. Additional moderate rain was moving through areas near Sulphur Springs, Grand Saline, and Canton.
These pockets could bring brief bursts of steadier rain before easing back to lighter showers. Drivers in these areas should expect reduced visibility and slick roads during heavier periods.
Corsicana, Athens, and Gun Barrel City See Steadier Rain
South and southeast of Dallas, steady rain was falling near Corsicana, Kerens, Athens, and Gun Barrel City. Some of the stronger returns on radar were focused around Corsicana and areas to the east.
Rain also extended toward Ennis, Italy, and Hillsboro, though with lighter intensity. These communities could see a soaking rain as showers continue moving north through the day.
East Texas From Tyler to Marshall Stays Wet
Rain stretched across much of East Texas, including Tyler, Longview, Kilgore, Gilmer, and Marshall. Moderate rain pockets were also showing up near Linden, Naples, and Douglassville in northeast Texas.
Areas around Whitehouse, Henderson, and Carthage were seeing lighter rain and drier gaps. Clouds and scattered showers are expected to keep temperatures cool across East Texas throughout the day.
Light Soaking Rain Benefits Dry Ground but Lakes Rise Slowly
Light rain is helping provide a good soaking for dry ground across the region. Most of the rain that has fallen this week has been absorbed into the soil rather than running off.
That is why lake levels have responded slowly, with Lake Lavon up only about a foot. More rain over time will be needed before area lakes see significant rises.
