During the period between March 4, 2024, through March 10, 2024, members of the GRPD\u00a0handled 365 calls for service, the highlights of which included:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Crime Alert<\/strong>: As the warmer weather approaches each year, there are spikes in roofing and driveway repair scams. Dishonest contractors often target vulnerable homeowners in need of immediate repairs or replacements, promising attractive deals that, unfortunately, turn into nightmares. Falling for these scams can lead to substandard work, the need for additional costly repairs, and even outright fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Better Business Bureau offers the following tips on how to avoid contractor scams:<\/p>\n\n\n\n 03-12-2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 4:04 PM \u2013 A Glen Rock resident reported that in November of 2023, a fraudulent $ 636.18 charge was discovered on their Bank of America Visa credit card for AVIS Renta-a-Car.\u00a0 At that time Bank of America was notified and the card was canceled, with a replacement issued.\u00a0 The complainant then recently received notification of the same charge placed on February 21st, for the same amount. The bank investigated the matter and found that the transaction was placed on the closed account, listed as pending.\u00a0 As of the time of the report, there was no financial loss to the complainant.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n 03-12-2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n 4:43 PM \u2013 Patrols were dispatched to the area of Wilde Park following a report from three Glen Rock teens whose bicycles had just been stolen.\u00a0 While responding to the call, along Harristown Road, P.O. Andrew Magro was flagged down by two teens, friends of the victim, who had followed and pointed out the actors to the officer.\u00a0 The actors jumped off the stolen bicycles and fled on foot through backyards along Harristown Road.\u00a0 P.O. Magro pursued them on foot, through several backyards and over fences, and subsequently apprehended them at Iris Circle with the assistance of Sgt. Mike Trover. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Arrested for one count each of N.J.S.A. 2C:20-3A Theft – a crime in the third degree, were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The adults were charged and released on their own recognizance pending an appearance before Central Judicial Processing at the Superior Court in Hackensack on April 5th<\/sup>. The juvenile was released to the custody of his mother pending an appearance in Superior Court \u2013 Family Part. These charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The three stolen bicycles, all valued at between $ 900 and $ 1,200, were recovered and returned to the victims. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
