The Glen Rock High School football team will play its final game of the regular season Friday in Park Ridge against the Owls, in a battle of 6-1 teams in the NJIC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both teams are assured of making the state playoffs, but for Glen Rock, a victory or a loss could determine whether the Panthers get a home playoff game. Glen Rock is currently ranked No. 7 in the North Jersey Group 2 bracket, with the top 16 teams earning a playoff berth. The top eight would host a first-round game, so if the Panthers were to win Friday, they would likely secure that. A loss, though, might cause Glen Rock to drop in the rankings, and could send them on the road next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Park Ridge, a perennial power in North Jersey small school football under eighth-year coach Tom Curry, Jr., was the runner-up in the North Jersey Group 1 championship game last year, losing in MetLife Stadium to Cedar Grove. The Owls won the North Jersey Group 1 title in 2019. Currently, they are the No. 2 seed in North Jersey Group 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Owls are led by 6-2, 200-pound junior quarterback Cole Hughes, who, according to nj.com, leads Park Ridge in rushing with 971 yards and nine touchdowns. As a passer, he has thrown for 861 yards and 11 touchdowns, with one interception, while completing 63 of 104 passes (60.5 percent). Running back Luke Macfie is the team\u2019s second-leading rusher, with 863 yards and 10 touchdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Glen Rock is led by senior quarterback Andrew Knight, who has thrown for 862 yards, with eight touchdowns and four interceptions, on 50-of-86 passing (58.1 percent). Running back Aiden Burkhardt (344 yards, three TDs) and Knight (341 yards, seven TDs) lead the rushing attack for the Panthers. Burkhardt, who plays end on defense, leads the Panthers with six sacks and five passes broken up.
