 During the period between September 30, 2024, through October 6, 2024, members of the GRPD handled 420 calls for service, the highlights of which included:

The Glen Rock Police Department, and law enforcement agencies throughout the region, have been continuing to receive reports of subjects prowling around homes overnight. They are looking for unlocked vehicles and homes, as well as key fobs left in vehicles.  The public is reminded to always lock your homes, garages, sheds, vehicles, and bicycles. Never leave key fobs or valuables in your vehicles and promptly report any suspicious activity. 

In response to the increase in vehicle thefts, the Glen Rock Police Department is fielding additional patrols during the overnight hours.  If you see someone prowling around your home, do not confront them, and call 9-1-1 immediately. Numerous arrests have been made for these types of crimes, yet they continue to occur. Personal vigilance is your best defense. 

09-30-2024

8:11 AM – A Richmond Hills Virginia resident, who was visiting a home on Heathcote Road, reported that their Range Rover SUV had been stolen from the driveway.  The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key fob inside.   Reported to be in the vehicle at the time it was taken were diamond hoop earrings with a reported value of $ 25,000, a Gucci handbag valued at $ 4,000, and various designer clothing with a value of approximately $ 1,000.   The vehicle has been entered into NCIC as stolen. 

Responding officers canvassed the area and were able to recover video footage from neighbors showing that the vehicle had been taken just after 5 AM.  The images detected a subject, who appeared to be male, wearing all black clothing attempting to enter a locked vehicle in a neighboring driveway.  When they found that vehicle to be locked, they went next door, entered the unlocked Range Rover, and drove off with it.

6:55 PM – A corporate Risk Manager for Opici Wines on De Boer Drive reported detecting fraudulent activity which appeared to be initiated using the company’s information without authorization.  A Maryland resident had been the victim of an online employment scam seeking their banking information when applying for a non-existent job with Opici.  Around the same time, they learned of this fraud, a check in the amount of $ 48,000 was received by the company in the mail addressed to an individual who does not work for Opici. 

The management of Opici wished to document these issues should additional fraudulent acts occur in their name. 

10-01-2024

8:12 PM – A Herold Drive resident reported that a package containing medication had been tampered with before being delivered by the US Postal Service. The package had been opened, the medication was removed, and the package was re-sealed.  The resident notified both the mail-order pharmacy service and the Post Office.  The matter has been referred to the US Postal Inspection Service for investigation.

12:42 PM – A Glen Rock Police Department speed trailer/message board had been vandalized while parked on Glen Avenue overnight. Graffiti was painted on the back of the sign and was observed by an officer on patrol.

5:06 PM – A Keith Place resident reported the theft of $ 10,000 worth of designer handbags and purses from an unlocked shed in their rear yard. The theft allegedly occurred at an unknown time between August 5^th and the date of the report.  There are no witnesses, and no video surveillance, and the complainant was unable to provide an inventory or description of the stolen property. They were requested to compile an inventory and to contact the Detective Bureau. 

10-03-2024

2:17 AM – While on patrol in the area of Main Street and Bradford Street, P.O. Andrew Magro came across an unoccupied suspicious vehicle parked on the street.  An NCIC computer check of the vehicle found that it had been reported stolen on October 1^st in Wood-Ridge, NJ. The vehicle was impounded for investigation and Glen Rock patrols began searching the area for any potential actors or entered vehicles.

During the search, Glen Rock Officers were alerted that Hawthorne Police received a report of a stolen vehicle from one of their residents off Lincoln Avenue adjacent to Glen Rock.  The actor, a teenager from the Bronx, fled and crashed a stolen vehicle on Diamond Bridge Avenue near the Glen Rock border and was apprehended.  P.O. Magro recovered the key fob from the stolen vehicle recovered in Glen Rock which was in the actor’s possession.  Charges of burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, and eluding in a motor vehicle were filed against the teen.  Additional charges to be filed by Detectives from the Wood-Ridge Police Department are pending.  

These charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. 

10-03-2024

6 AM – Officers began receiving reports from residents of vehicles that had been entered overnight.  None of them were broken into, as all had been left unlocked and were entered by an unknown actor(s) who pulled on the vehicles’ door handles to gain entry.  A total of eight vehicles were entered on Ackerman Avenue, Ashton Place, and Harding Road.  The only item reported stolen was prescription medication left in a vehicle parked at an Ackerman Avenue residence.  

10-03-2024

6:30 AM – A Norwood Avenue resident reported that their 2015 VW Passat had been stolen from their driveway overnight.  The resident reported that the vehicle had been left unlocked but did not feel that they left the key fob in the vehicle. The resident stated they would search their home video surveillance system to determine if footage of the theft was captured. The vehicle has been entered into NCIC as stolen. 

10-04-2024

11:48 AM – A resident on the 500 block of Maple Avenue reported that their unlocked vehicle had been entered at an unknown time between October 2^nd and the time of the report.  Taken from the vehicle were $20 in cash and a small bag containing shopping discount cards.

3:28 PM – A resident on the 300 block of Maple Avenue reported that a FedEx package containing an iPhone 16 was stolen from their front porch.  Their home video surveillance system recorded a male subject walk up the driveway remove the package at 3:21 PM and drive off in an unknown dark-colored mini-van south on Maple Avenue. The subject recorded on the video footage was a black male wearing a green hooded Jets sweatshirt and a face covering. 

The responding officer canvassed the area with negative results. 

10-06-2024

12:59 AM – A resident on the 700 block of Lincoln Avenue reported the theft of their 2024 Honda CRV from their driveway.  The theft had occurred approximately 30 minutes before police were notified.   According to the resident they were awoken by the sound of the vehicle being started.  They checked their home video surveillance system which detected an unknown person entering the vehicle and driving off.  The vehicle has been entered as stolen in NCIC.
