Personal background:
I moved to Glen Rock four years ago with my wife, Prof. Emily Greenfield, and three children. My kids attend sixth grade at Glen Rock Middle School, fifth grade at Coleman Elementary School, and second grade at Central Elementary School.
I am the Chief Revenue Officer of Edge226, an advertising startup. I bring over 20 years of experience managing teams toward shared goals and strategic results in business development, sales, and marketing. I am a veteran of the Israeli Air Force, where I served as a Captain for seven years.
I have an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from The Israeli Institute of Technology, summa cum laude.
Public service background:
I have volunteered for several Glen Rock HSA-sponsored school activities. I also helped organize the Rally Against Antisemitism in Glen Rock. I also mentor and support start-up entrepreneurs.
Reason for running:
My love for Glen Rock and commitment to doing all that we can as a community to foster excellence for all students motivates my run for the Board. I have had many conversations with community members, especially parents, and I see great opportunities to work together with the administration on our shared concerns and visions to help the district keep moving forward.
Candidate’s biggest issue:
I am seeking to serve on the Glen Rock Board of Education to help pursue the following goals:
1\. Retain quality teachers
2\. Eliminate the use of cell phones during classes (currently, at the high school, it is left to each teacher to decide)
3\. Identify and address the root causes for the drop in math scores, especially in the middle school
4\. Advocate for later start times at the middle school and high school to promote student learning and mental health
5\. Combat antisemitism and other forms of hate and discrimination
6\. Ensure efficient usage of taxpayers’ money
7\. Strengthen open dialogue between the board and the community
8\. Improve collaboration among the board, the GR borough council, and the GR police
9\. Explore splitting the middle school and high school into two separate schools and hiring a full-time principal for the middle school to allow their sole focus on each school and their unique challenges
10\. Install RO water filters at the schools – given the latest water quality report from Ridgewood Water, we should make sure our kids drink safe water at school
Campaign slogan and meaning:
EXCELLENCE FOR STUDENTS – My priority is ensuring that Glen Rock schools remain great by focusing on strategies to retain experienced and high-quality teachers.
Approach to budget cuts and spending:
I believe that Glen Rock schools must be prudent and effective in utilizing what is available through our school budget to help all students achieve excellence and to stretch their learning, academic preparedness, and socio-emotional well-being. My priority is ensuring that Glen Rock schools remain great, such as by focusing on strategies to retain experienced and high-quality teachers. It is also important to prioritize funding to ensure our district is optimally meeting the needs of diverse learners, including students with special needs and gifted and talented programs.
