During the period between August 26, 2024, through September 1, 2024, members of the GRPD handled 346 calls for service, the highlights of which included:
The Glen Rock Police Department, and law enforcement agencies throughout the region, have been continuing to receive reports of subjects prowling around homes overnight. They are looking for unlocked vehicles and homes, as well as key fobs left in vehicles. Stolen vehicles and thefts from unlocked vehicles continue to occur on a regular basis, in Glen Rock and beyond. The public is once again reminded to always lock your homes, your vehicles, your bicycles. Never leave key fobs or valuables in your vehicles and promptly report any suspicious activity.
If you see someone prowling around your home, do not confront them and call 9-1-1 immediately. Numerous arrests have been made for these types of crimes, yet they continue to occur. Personal vigilance is your best defense.
08-26-2024
6:42 AM – A North Haledon resident reported that their 2022 Honda Civic had been stolen overnight while it was parked in a driveway on the 300 block of Highwood Avenue. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the key fob inside. Also left in the vehicle were an Apple watch, $45 in cash, a debit card, and a credit card.
Shortly after receiving this report, another resident on the 300 block of Highwood Avenue reported that they had heard yelling outside their home overnight and in the morning discovered a Ford car key in their driveway. Officers, who were already on scene canvassing the area, located a 2008 Ford Fusion parked on Norwood Avenue near Henry Street which matched the key that was recovered. Investigation determined that the Ford Fusion was stolen from Hawthorne overnight. That vehicle had also been left unlocked with the key inside. Glen Rock and Hawthorne Detectives are investigating both stolen vehicle incidents as related crimes.
On August 28th, at 1:49 AM Paterson Police recovered the stolen Honda in their city on 10th Avenue. No arrests were made by Paterson officers. The matter remains under investigation.

2:42 PM – A Glen Rock resident reported being contacted by the Bank of America’s Fraud Department concerning a fraudulent transaction with their checking account. Bank officials had determined that a legitimate check, payable to PSE&G in the amount of $291, had been altered to the amount of $ 8,500 and made payable to an individual unknown to the complainant and was cashed electronically. The bank is in the process of replenishing the funds and the matter has been referred to the Detective Bureau for review.

5:13 PM – A resident on the 300 block of Dunham Place reported receiving several Ring camera notifications from their residence between 2:50 PM and 3:20 PM. Upon checking the camera footage, the complainant observed what appeared to be a dark-skinned female dressed in all black clothing walking around their property with a long pole and a measuring wheel. The subject walked around the property taking photographs, looking into windows and placing their smartphone on the end of the pole to take photos of the second level of the home.
The complainant related that they were not expecting anyone at their home for any type of estimates or a survey. Officers canvassed the area and found that while construction was being done in the area no workers were expected to be on private property adjacent to the home. A witness observed a woman fitting the description given in the area and provided a license plate number of the dark green SUV they were driving, however, the plate provided did not match the vehicle.
The video images have been forwarded to the Detective Bureau for review. Anyone who observed similar activity is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.

9:21 AM – The owner of the Ridgewood Auto Wash on Broad Street in Glen Rock reported observing a U-Haul rental truck mount the curb, strike, and damage three traffic signs on the traffic island at the intersection of Broad Street and Ackerman Avenue. The driver of the vehicle stopped briefly, then drove off on Ackerman Avenue toward Ridgewood.
Based upon video images recovered from the Ridgewood Auto Wash, P.O. Andrew Magro was able to identify the U-Haul truck involved and obtain information concerning the driver who rented the truck. The driver, a 52-year-old Wayne NJ man, was located and issued summonses for leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.
09-01-2024
12:28 PM – Patrols were dispatched to the area of the 200 block of Doremus Avenue and Leone Court regarding unlocked vehicles being entered overnight. Residents in the area provided video images from home surveillance systems which detected a male actor going into driveways on Doremus Avenue and Leone Court attempting to enter vehicles between 1:22 AM and 1:30 AM. The actor appeared to be a light skinned male with short hair and a slight beard, dressed in orange hoodie and black shorts.
The actor was able to enter two unlocked vehicles at two homes on Doremus Avenue. From one of the vehicles approximately $ 3,000 worth of property was taken including a laptop computer, corsair headphones, a hard drive, gift card, golf shoes, and a Swiss army knife. He attempted to enter several other vehicles; however, they were locked and not entered. The actor fled the area in what is believed to be an older black Nissan Sentra.
Later in the day another resident, who resides in an apartment above the stores in the Rock Road Central Business District, reported that their unlocked vehicle was also entered overnight. Taken from their vehicle was a wallet containing $ 20 cash, credit cards, and their driver’s license.
