Fuel Truck spill closes 208 South

Glen Rock patrols were dispatched to Route 208 South just beyond Harristown Road offramp on a report of two trucks involved in a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers found that a fuel truck had struck the back of a dump truck and carrier combo, causing the fuel truck to jackknife and spill fuel onto the highway.  There are no reported injuries. Glen Rock PD, Glen Rock FD, Fair Lawn PD, Fair Lawn FD, Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue, Bergen County HazMat responded to the scene, Route 208 S. has been shut down between the offramp and Harristown Road on-ramp.

The  DOT arrived shortly after to begin cleanup operations. Until they are done,  extensive traffic delays are expected through rush hour.  Motorists are asked to find alternate routes where possible, those who must travel 208 southbound for Glen Rock should expect extensive delays.

This accident has not just caused backups on 208 but also on area streets such as Rock, Maple, Harristown, Radburn, and several others. Please add additional travel time this evening.

** AS of 5:50 pm Route 208 South has been reopened, however, traffic is still backed up.  The going is slow but motorists will be able to get through.
