Search for Glen Rock Man Ends Tragically
A four day search, which spanned from Glen Rock to the Jersey shore, ended tragically when the US Coast Guard recovered the remains of the 26-year-old Glen Rock man in the water off of Barnegat Light, about two miles off the coast of Island Beach State Park.
Kiariff Alston of Harristown Road was reported missing by his family in the early morning hours of October 11. He had left his home on October 10 telling his mother he was going to buy gas and was then expected to report to his job later that day at Home Depot in Paterson. The family became concerned after learning he had never shown up at his job.
Through investigation, his vehicle was located in Seaside Heights New Jersey. Sgt. Michael Trover and Det. Lucas Doney traveled to Seaside Heights and worked with members of their Police Department canvassing the area in an attempt to locate Mr. Alston, subsequently being contacted by the Coast Guard concerning the recovery.
An autopsy was conducted by the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, whose formal findings are pending, the matter remains under investigation.
The members of the Glen Rock Police Department express their sympathies to Mr. Alston’s family in their time of loss. The US Coast Guard, NJ State Police, Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, Seaside Heights Police Department, Long Beach Township Police Department, and Ocean County Medical Examiners Office are recognized for their assistance in this investigation.
