Around 10:20 am, a suspicious device in a shopping cart was found in the Glen Rock Plaza near the Farmers Market on Prospect St.
The Bergen County Bomb Squat was called in as well as EMS and Glen Rock and Fair Lawn PD. Prospect was closed between the Saddle River and Prospect St split and Prospect at Woodvale while they were looking into this.
After the investigation, it appears to of been just a pressure cooker that somebody left in a shopping cart. Not sure where that was accidental or done intentionally create a scare. There was another possible device behind Kosher Nosh but deemed harmless.
Pressure cookers were used in the Boston Marathon Bombings.
Roads are now open. Glen Rock PD is investigating the situation. Stay tuned to GRNT for more updates on this.

GLEN ROCK – At 9:58 AM this morning Glen Rock’s regional public safety dispatch center (Northwest Bergen Central Dispatch) received a cellular 9-1-1 call from a concerned citizen who observed a suspicious item left in a shopping cart outside of the main entrance at the Rock Farmer’s Market at 924 Prospect Street. The Rock Farmer’s Market is one of about ten retail establishment which occupy the strip mall.
Upon arrival Sgt. Greg Carter located a pressure cooker inside a shopping cart left outside the front door. Out of an abundance of caution the shopping mall, as well as an adjacent shopping mall were evacuated, and Prospect Street at the Fair Lawn border was shut down to vehicular traffic. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad were immediately dispatch to the scene, fire and EMS personnel were placed on standby. Upon arrival a bomb technician determined that the pressure cooker posed no threat. Also investigated was a bag which a merchant found hanging off their back door. That was determined to be a plastic bag containing a brick.
The evacuation order was lifted at 11:17 AM and business resumed at the shopping mall. Glen Rock Detectives are currently reviewing video footage from the stores in an effort to identify the individual who left the pressure cooker behind, however, at this juncture there is no evidence to support any criminal intent or a direct threat to the Rock Farmers Market nor any other store in the complex. Chief Dean Ackermann stated that “in the 21st century a pressure cooker left unattended in any public place, even if due to carelessness, will no doubt cause public alarm. We would like to thank the concerned citizen who notified us of its presence”.
In addition to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department, assistance was also provided on scene by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Bergen County Regional SWAT Team, Fair Lawn Police and the Glen Rock Office of Emergency Management.
