At the March 13th public meeting of the Glen Rock Mayor and Council a veteran Police Officer and a Retired Sergeant were honored for their service:
P.O. Adam Pyatak was honored for his twenty years of dedicated service to the community. He was born and raised in Glen Rock where he has been a lifelong resident. He graduated from Glen Rock High School in 1993 and attended Bergen Community College. Wanting to give back to the community he joined the former Glen Rock Auxiliary Police in 1993 as a volunteer and in 1996 was promoted to Auxiliary Police Sergeant. On January 25th, 1999 he was hired a Police Officer and began basic training at the Bergen County Police Academy graduating on May 26th, 1999 and was assigned to the GRPD Patrol Division where he current serves as the senior officer.
In 2012 P.O. Pyatak was driving force behind the establishment of the Glen Rock Police Department Motor Unit where he literally built the department’s first motorcycle by completely refurbishing an old motorcycle which had been donated graciously by another community. Since the institution of the GRPD Motor Unit, Adam has served as the lead motor officer and patrols 12 months year in most weather conditions. He spends countless hours, mostly uncompensated at special events such as parades, funerals, dignitary visits, and motorcycle bike runs and as part of our Motor Unit he provides proactive community policing providing a high police visibility in our neighborhoods and creating police involvement and interaction with local youth. He has remained active as one of the county’s leading motorcycle instructors and each year wins among the top honors in the Police Motor Officers Association Skills Competitions and Professional Standards.
During his career P.O. Pyatak has received numerous honors through the years including a Meritorious Service Award for chasing down a robbery suspect, several valor awards for apprehending various suspects under difficult circumstances and is credited with three CPR saves and a Narcan save.
Retired Sgt. George Erlich, who served as an active member of the GRPD from January 1978 to December 2008, was honored for his service to the community as a ‘Volunteer behind the Scenes’. Sgt. Erlich, a highly decorated officer during his years of service, did not stop caring for others and lending a helping hand when he retired. He has been a Crossing Guard at Maple and Rodney for the last decade and has continued quietly caring for members of the community who are in need of a helping hand.
