The Glen Rock School District will hold a referendum vote for several projects on March 12, 2019. The referendum is for four projects around the district.
Auditorium Renovations at Central Elementary School
The renovation of Central’s auditorium will featuremuch needed safety and accessibility improvementsbut will keep the character and feel of the original theatre. The updated auditorium will free up much needed community space, alleviating congestion at the HS/MS auditorium, creating an additional venue for district events. The project will include:
- Accessible chairlift to the stage
- Handicap accessibility to the theatre making the room ADA compliant
- Installation of acoustical improvements and a newsound system
- New lighting, curtains and the addition of aisle lighting
- Replacement of broken seating and refinishing of splintered flooring
Sports Field Repairs at Alexander Hamilton Elementary School
The reconditioning of the sports field at Hamilton Elementary School will benefit not only Hamiltonstudents but all the participants in the middle schoolsports and Glen Rock’s recreation programs that utilize Hamilton’s fields. The work will include:
- Sodding the sports field and refinishing the tops of the ballfields for safety improvements to the playing surfaces
- New irrigation system to replace non-working systems •ADA upgrades to the bleacher access and pathways
HIGH SCHOOL – MIDDLE SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER
Media Center Renovations at Glen Rock High School and Middle School
The newly updated media center will be a flexible/ collaborative work space featuring a glass partition to allow middle and high school students to use the center simultaneously. The redesigned space will also feature one large flexible classroom which will consist of an adjustable partition allowing for two sectioned classrooms. With the look and feel of a college media center, the renovated room will offer students an open space where they can learn, socialize, and work on computers. Highlights of the project include:
- Converting existing computer lab into a state-of-the-art television/broadcasting studio
- A cutting-edge makerspace classroom, creating collaborative work spaces for learning and exploring
- Moveable furniture that can be configured based onspace needs
- Lighting upgrades
- New storage area
- Rooftop units (condensers for AC) replacements for improved indoor environment
Air Conditioning Upgrades at All Four Elementary Schools
In keeping with Glen Rock Board of Education strategic goals for the 2018/2019 school year, the referendum includes air conditioning (AC) installation at all four elementary schools in spaces where AC systems do not currently exist. The inclusion of AC supports district initiatives to enhance the safety, health and well-being of our staff and students. The AC install will contribute to the comfort of student and staff while supporting learning and teaching. The new AC will provide fresh air levels required by code, unlike window units which do not provide enough cooling to withstand humidity. The scope of the project will include but will not be limited to:
- New condensers will be installed to provide cooling in all classrooms currently without AC
- New metal shelving and chases will be installed asneeded
- Existing ductwork to be modified as needed
- Existing exhaust fans to be repaired/replaced asrequired
- Electrical upgrades to support AC at Coleman
- Two new boilers at Hamilton
- New building management control system to be installed throughout all four elementary schools
- New cassette units, heat pumps, etc. with modifications to rooftop units for integration with the building management control system
Voting on the referendum will beheld March 12, 2019 from 6am-8pm at your district polling location.
The total cost of the project is $14,718,320. Glen Rock is projected to receive $4,503,430 from the New Jersey Department of Education debt service aid reducing the taxpayers’ share of the bond project to $10,214,890.
The estimated tax impact on an average assessed home valued at $563,170 would be $14.60 a month on a 20-year bond or $18.09 on a 15-year bond.
