Submitted by the Glen Rock Holiday Committee
Hundreds of Glen Rock friends and families braved the chilly weather on Saturday, December 8, 2018, to count down the seconds to the annual Glen Rock Christmas Tree lighting. Downes Tree serviced decorated the tree beautifully with multi-colored lights that can be seen up and down Rock Road.

This year’s event was held in Kilroy’s parking lot. Maple Rock Exxon graciously loaned the Christmas tree and associated electricity to us. Glen Rock icon and Kilroy’s owner Jan Kilroy “flipped the switch” to turn on the lights at approximately 4:45 pm. On Saturday evening. There was an abundance of holiday cheer as Stephanie Ferrari Beaudoin led the large assembled group in singing Christmas carols while many children played and posed with Santa Claus at the tree while sharing their Christmas wish lists.
The group then walked down to Glen Courts to continue caroling and help spread some holiday cheer to the seniors at the complex. Everyone shared hot chocolate donated by Francesca’s and ate cookies donated by Wilkes deli and many other area businesses and residents.
We asked Michelle Torpey, Glen Rock Holiday Committee what the goal of the committee is, She replied,

“My goal is to keep the holiday spirit alive in the town I love – Glen Rock. A key sign that the holidays are upon us is a beautifully lit Christmas Tree. This year we were fortunate enough to not only have two major business Kilroy’s and Exxon allow us to showcase a lit evergreen on their property, but also many of the other businesses that are Chamber of Commerce members contributed as well. The Glen Rock Holiday committee is focused on working with these members to do three key things — the first is securing the tree and with lights and decorations – in fact each year we have a special commemorative Glen Rock ornament available, the second is to encourage residents to shop local during the season with discounts and activities in town at each business for families to join in and lastly to support our seniors in Glen Courts by bringing the holidays to them on the day of the tree lighting. All those gathered to light the tree are invited to join us in singing Christmas carols at Glen Courts and enjoy a hot chocolate and cookies donated by local businesses. And it is no surprise throughout the day there are Santa sightings in town and opportunities for families to take pictures with him. At the end of the day we hope to create memories for our children they will look back on and cherish about growing up in Glen Rock.”
