ANNUAL UTILITY POLE INSPECTION: PSE&G has hired a contractor (Osmose Utility Services, Inc.) to perform annual pole inspections for the 2018-2019 term. The purpose of the inspections is to help ensure the safety and reliability of the electric distribution system, extend the life-cycle of the poles, and reduce maintenance and replacement costs.
The pole testing is performed by several methods. The most visible to the public is an 18″ to 24″ deep excavation at the base of the pole. Another method is holes are bored into the pole to identify damage that may have been caused by wood-destroying organisms such as fungi decay and insects.
PSE&G says the excavation sites and work zones will be made safe and the restoration will be as reasonable as possible. Osmose Utility Services employees carry photo identification and a letter from PSE&G.
