I am running for the Glen Rock Board of Education because I believe in the importance of quality public education.
I grew up in a small town in upstate NY. My parents dropped me off at college in NYC, September 1983 and I never looked back. I enjoy the excitement and challenges I face everyday.
The Board should work to formally establish policies that support fundraising, grant applications, and sponsorships. We should hire a contract grant writer. Our Borough Council recently spent $30,000 for a grant writer whose work yielded ten times that amount.
I agree with A/C in the elementary schools. We just need to re-evaluate how to proceed. Maybe central air is not the solution. There are other solutions, including reflective shades on the classrooms, fan coil units, DOES (Dedicated Outdoor Air System), as well as wall units. The auditorium should be fixed. This is a safety hazard, and should not be ignored. Fixing the field at Hamilton also should be addressed. However, we should look at sponsorships on our fields to defer some of the costs.
