For the very first time, Glen Rock will be home to a town-wide community Hanukkah Menorah. Located on private property outside of Kilroy’s Wonder Market, 288 Rock Road, Glen Rock, Jewish residents will light the Menorah each of the eight nights of Hanukkah from December 12 to December 20, 2017.
On Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017 at 6 p.m., the third night of Hanukkah, the Jewish Families of Glen Rock, a private group of residents, the Chabad Jewish Center of Northwest Bergen County and the Glen Rock Jewish Center will host a special celebration, “Rock the Lights”. The event will be open to the public and include live music, holiday food and activities for children. The event is the result a lot of hard work by a dedicated group of volunteers and Jewish religious leaders and is privately funded.
“A town-wide menorah in Glen Rock is a long time coming,” said Glen Rock resident Erica Danziger, one of the lead planners of the celebration. “This is a truly cooperative experience to benefit the whole community.”
In addition to “Rock the Lights,” Glen Rock residents can also celebrate Hanukkah this year at the Glen Rock Public Library. On Sunday, Dec. 17, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the Jewish Families of Glen Rock will host Hanukkah crafts, games and an exciting raffle. Participants will be treated to chocolate “gelt” and music, too. All ages are welcome.
