Glen Rock football ends season with 27-17 consolation game loss to Hawthorne

Panthers finish up-and-down season on down note, finishing with a 4-5 record

Glen Rock’s up-and-down 2017 football season ended on a down note Thursday with a 27-17 loss to next-door neighbor Hawthorne in the Panthers’ consolation game. The loss dropped Glen Rock’s record to 4-5 on the season. Hawthorne finished 5-4.

Glen Rock took the lead, 7-0, on a touchdown run by quarterback Dom Patania and led again, 14-7, on a 52-yard pass from Patania to receiver Ashton Dalessio. Hawthorne tied the game, 14-14, with 32 seconds left in the half, but Glen Rock was able to march down the field and re-take the lead, 17-14, on a 42-yard field goal by Justin Douenias as time expired.

But Hawthorne ran back the opening kickoff of the second half for a touchdown to take its first lead of the game, 20-17 (the extra point missed wide), and the Bears extended their lead with a 97-yard scoring drive for the game’s final points.

Glen Rock graduates 10 seniors from the 2017 team: Captains Patania, Jimmy Gilmartin, Drew Famularo and Matt Sapoff, as well as receivers Conor Egan, Sean Egan, Will Rabens (who missed the season with an injury) and Will Scherer, and linemen Michael Quinn and Ben Packer.
