As Co-President of Glen Rock SEPAC (Special Education Parent Advisory Commitee) I have had the pleasure of working with Michelle Torpey over the years.
Last year we were invited to prepare a presentation to kickoff “Light It Up Blue Glen Rock” in support of Autism Awareness at the Board of Ed meeting in March. Based on the effort it was evident Michelle Torpey cares deeply about the topic, as a Pharmacist she is well-informed and proved to be a great champion for Autism Speaks and Awareness. As Co-Chair she worked tirelessly to further awareness, acceptance, understanding and inclusion of autism and other differing abilities within our town.
Over the years Michelle has been an active force in the Autism Speaks “Light It Up Blue Glen Rock” event that Christina Peck initiated. Never afraid to shy away from hard work she is the first one to volunteer to pick up supplies and take the time to distribute the blue bulbs and bows that you see throughout Glen Rock during the month of April.
Michelle goes the extra mile though. She met with both the Byrd School librarian and The Curious Reader Bookstore owner to come up with a list of several books that would help educate different school age children to generate awareness and acceptance of the differing abilities kids may have. Through her efforts, SEPAC leveraged this information to purchase and donate all the books to all four elementary schools in Glen Rock.
She is an outstanding resident who loves the town and works hard to to support important causes. The town is better for her service.
I urge you to vote for the candidates with the best experience, skills and integrity to represent all of Glen Rock. Please vote for Michelle Torpey and her running mate Eileen Hillock on November 7th.
