10-24-2017

12:49 PM – The managing partner of a Harristown Road law firm reported an attempted bank fraud in the amount of $19,600.  An unknown actor attempted an on-line impersonation of one of the partners at the firm in order to facilitate the fraudulent transfer.  Internal business practices thwarted the crime.  The detective bureau is currently reviewing the matter.

4:21 PM – A teacher at Central School reported that several young girls participating in an after-school sports practice became alarmed by the actions of a man in a parked car on Hamilton Avenue near the school.  Investigation found that no unlawful act had been committed and the subject was a local resident whose actions were misinterpreted. No probable cause for further action was found.

12:19 AM – While on patrol in the area of the Glen Rock High School, P.O. Sarah Orsita observed a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on Hamilton Avenue. Upon stopping the vehicle, she found that driver, a 42-year-old Garfield man, had an active no bail warrant issued by the Superior Court in Hackensack for civil contempt.   The man was subsequently taken into custody and turned over to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department.  He was also issued traffic summonses for driving with a suspended license, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and careless driving.

4:27 PM –  While on patrol in the area of Central School, P.O. T.J. Graziani observed a vehicle fail to stop for a red light on Maple Avenue at Rock Road.  Subsequent to the motor vehicle stop the driver, an 18-year-old Ridgewood man, was arrest for possession of narcotics, Xanax, for which he did not have a prescription.  He was processed at Police HQ and released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in Superior Court, Central Judicial Processing in Hackensack on November 10th, 2017.  He was also issued traffic summonses for failure to obey a traffic signal and violation of probationary license restrictions.

1:30 PM –  Patrols, along with the Glen Rock Fire Department, responded to a small brush fire along the NJ Transit RR Track adjacent to the 500 block of Broad Street.  The fire was quickly extinguished, the cause was undetermined and not suspicious, there were no injuries.  Train traffic was briefly delayed.

9:16 PM – Responding to a report from employees at the CVS Store on Rock Road, P.O. Will Holguin arrested a 35-year-old Jersey City man for shoplifting.  Investigation found that the man had stolen $470 worth of merchandise which was recovered during the arrest.  The actor was also found to have an active criminal warrant out of Jersey City.

After being processed at Police HQ the actor was transported to the Bergen County Jail pending an appearance before Superior Court, Central Judicial Processing as well as resolution of the Jersey City warrant.

12:10 PM – The realtor representing the out of state owner of a Rutland Road home reported that unauthorized demolition work had been done inside the home.  The home had recently been renovated and no such work had been contracted for.  Nothing is reported missing from the home and none of the authorized contractors or neighbors observed anyone working at the house recently.  The detective bureau is reviewing the matter.

6:46 PM – Patrols were dispatched to Super Fresh on Lincoln Avenue to investigate a reported shoplifting.  P.O. Sam Evans subsequently arrested a 56-year-old East Rutherford man for Shoplifting, Receiving Stolen Property and Hindering Apprehension by providing a false identity.  The actor had stolen $130 worth of alcohol and provided officers with a false identity to avoid detection due to active warrants for his arrest issued by the Superior Court, Hackensack, Oakhurst, Hamilton and Rutherford.

The actor who claimed he was having a medical issue was transported to New Bridge Medical Center under police guard and was medically cleared.  Following processing at Police HQ he was transported to the Bergen County Jail just after 1 AM, pending an appearance in Superior Court Central Judicial Processing and resolution of his multiple warrants.

4:29 PM – A motorist traveling east on Harristown Road, approaching Ackerman Avenue, was struck from behind by a gold SUV.  The operator of the hit and run vehicle got out of his vehicle to argue, but refused to provide any information and fled prior to police arriving on the scene.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident and can identify the hit and run vehicle is asked to contact the Glen Rock Police Department at (201) 652-3800.

10-29-2017

Between 3PM and 5PM patrols were dispatched to numerous flooded roadway reports due to heavy rains.  No damages or injuries were reported.  Stand-by personnel from the Glen Rock DPW were called in to assist in clearing storm drains.
