GLEN ROCK – Det. James Calaski arrested Jared Burger age 18 of Fair Lawn, NJ on one count of False Public Alarm, a 3rd degree crime. This following an investigation into an alleged threat which resulted in last Friday’s evacuation and lock down at the Glen Rock High School campus, which also includes the Glen Rock Middle School.
On October 13 th at 1230 PM the Principal of the Glen Rock High School reported receiving information concerning a social media threat toward the school. The school was initially evacuated; however, it was quickly determined by investigators that the nature of the communication did not pose a viable threat. Out of an abundance of caution, officers remained on scene through the remainder of the school day.
An investigation which lasted several days revealed that the source of the threat was Mr. Burger who had an association with students at the Glen Rock High School. The threat was made in response to a disagreement via social media which had gone on for several days. Detectives determined that the defendant had neither the ability nor the intent to carry out the threat. The investigation found no evidence at this juncture to support any credi ble threat against the school, students or staff. Detectives have been in been contact with the parents of the students involved as well as school officials.
Jared Burger surrendered himself at police headquarters Monday night, October 17th , he was processed and charged by Det. Calaski . In accordance with New Jersey’s 2017 bail reform Mr. Burger was released on his own recognizance pending an appearance before the Superior Court, Central Judicial Processing in Hackensack on Friday November 3rd .
