When I think about what makes Glen Rock such an incredible community, the first thing that always seems to come to mind is the spirit of volunteerism. Every Boy Scout and Girl Scout troop leader, youth sports coach, firefighter and ambulance corps member is a volunteer. The Board of Education is made up of volunteers. So many people put in so many hours, and ask for nothing in return. That is what makes Glen Rock special.
I am writing today in support of two women who have volunteered so much of their time to the people of our town. Eileen Hillock and Michelle Torpey bring an impressive mix of town service and private sector experience and will each be and incredible addition to the Glen Rock Borough Council.
Eileen currently serves on the Board of Education and Michelle is the Byrd School HSA President. “Shared Services” between the Board of Education and the Borough is a policy goal of every local candidate, and who better to make good on this promise, than a former member of the BOE and HSA President. Michelle’s experience with the parents and teachers of Byrd School will prove to be invaluable as we work to tackle the traffic and parking problem surrounding the school. Eileen led the Board of Education’s 5 Year Strategic Planning initiative and I would be happy to work with her on a similar plan for the council.
Eileen and Michelle have demonstrated their commitment to serving the people of Glen Rock during the 20 years that I’ve lived here. They have served as Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troop Leaders, church volunteers, HSA and BOE members, and I am confident that they will be an asset to the Council and to the Borough.
