At 5:26 AM this morning patrols responded to a 9-1-1 report of an unresponsive man lying in the middle of Valley Road between Austin Place and Sterling Place. The man was attended to by P.O. Bryan Scott, P.O. James Mc Gill and P.O. Sarah Orsita who determined that he had overdosed on heroin. The officers, who are all emergency medical technicians, began lifesaving operations and subsequently administered two doses of Narcan. Valley Hospital Paramedics and EMTs from the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and continued with on scene medical aid. The victim, a 34-year-old Pompton Plains man was subsequently transported by EMS to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
Officers discovered a 2000 Cadillac Eldorado, registered to the victim, parked blocking a driveway about fifty feet from where the man had been laying. Various paraphernalia associated with IV drug use and two hypodermic needles were discovered inside. The vehicle also had damage consistent with a motor vehicle accident on the driver’s side. Investigation determined that the vehicle had struck a tree in area of the Glen Avenue Senior Citizen’s complex roughly a block from where the vehicle was discovered. The is no evidence to support that anyone other than the subject had been in the vehicle.
In accordance with a directive issued by Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal early his year, a recovery specialist was dispatched to follow up with the victim at Valley Hospital.
