At 2:09 PM Patrols were dispatched to numerous 9-1-1 reports of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the middle of the Central Business District on Glen Avenue at Rock Road.

According to witness accounts, as well as statements from the driver and pedestrian, it was determined that a 49-year-old Glen Rock woman had entered the Glen Avenue crosswalk in front of the Glen Rock Inn and began crossing the street heading east.  The pedestrian crossing light was on giving her the right of way.  An SUV, driven by a 42-year-old Glen Rock woman, was making a left-hand turn from Rock Road onto Glen Avenue and struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk.  According to the witnesses the pedestrian had an umbrella open and canted, which may have obstructed her view.

The pedestrian was treated on scene by EMT’s from the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps and transported to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with non-life threatening injuries.  The driver, who was also examined on scene by EMT’s, was issued a summons for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk.  Officers transported the driver and her child to their residence.

The traffic signal and pedestrian crossing lights were inspected and appeared to be operating as intended.

The accident was investigated by P.O. Sarah Orsita, assisted by Sgt. Frank Riggio, P.O. Bryan Scott and P.O. James Mc Gill.
