Glen Rock High School baseball team falls in second round, loses to High Point, 8-2

Team's season concludes with 18-6 overall record, share of NJIC title

The Glen Rock baseball season came to an end Saturday when the Panthers lost their second-round state sectional playoff game to High Point, 8-2. The Panthers, the No. 6 seed in the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 bracket, fell behind by three runs in the first inning but plated single runs in the second and fourth innings to close to within 3-2 before No. 3 High Point tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the sixth to seal the result.

The Panthers finished the season with a record of 18-6 overall and their 14-2 record in the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference was good enough to earn them a share of the league title. Senior Noah Kastelman led the pitching staff with a 6-2 record, while senior Connor Smith and junior Matt Kopyta both were 4-1 on the season. Senior outfielder Colin Morrow led the team in hitting with a .441 average, while junior third baseman Dominic Patania hit .393 and senior second baseman Luke Nuzzo hit .383, while senior first baseman Matt Carbone hit .366 and had a team-high 25 RBI.

Nine seniors will be graduating from the team, including two of the big three pitchers and the starting first baseman, second baseman, shortstop and two outfielders.
