On May 20th the Glen Rock Police Department teamed up with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s office and the League of Women Voters to host Coffee with a Cop, a national program that seeks to improve relations between police and the communities they serve. Merve’s Kitchen and Bakery and Starbucks donated the coffee.
About 200 people came out on a cool Saturday morning to the Main Line train station to meet the officers of the GRPD, along with Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal and Glen Rock Mayor Bruce Packer. The first 100 families that came to the event got a “Slow Down” sign for their front lawn to remind people that children are on their street. GRPD Chief Dean Ackermann said the hope is to make this an annual event.
Speaking to Mayor Packer, he stated “I was very happy to be a part of the Coffee with a Cop event where residents were able to meet our newest police officers as well as most of our other officers. With easy smiles, high approachability, and open dialogue, our officers showed that they understand the importance of being a part of their community. I could not be prouder to be serving alongside a Chief who immediately made this event a priority upon his promotion. I also thank the Bergen County Prosecutor and members of his staff for attending and sharing a sense of what they do, as well.”
“Thank you GRPD and GRPBA 110 for an amazing event. It was well planned and executed – loved the face painter, cars and gear demonstrations! Another great example of how our officers are members of our community.” Councilwoman Kristine Morieko,
Along with being able to go through Bergen County Major Crime mobile command center, people were able to see some of the first aid and rescue equipment the GRPD uses as well as inspecting some of their newer fleet of vehicles
The Glen Rock Historical Society also opened up with historical pieces from the GRPD. They featured police calls as well as memorabilia .
One of the police calls that was featured one from 1929:
“Mrs Romary, Doremus Ave,reported a large snake among her flowers ad wanted assistance to kill it. Answered the call and sent it to snake heaven via a bullet”
