A 32-year-old Ridgewood man who was trapped inside the vehicle he was driving after it hit two electrical poles and a fire hydrant Thursday at the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Jerome Avenue in Glen Rock and was flipped over was charged by the Glen Rock Police Department with driving while intoxicated and careless driving, according to Glen Rock Police Chief Dean Ackermann.
The police department, along with the Glen Rock Fire Department and Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps, was called to the scene at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and the Fire Department needed to stabilize the vehicle and use the Hurst tool to cut the driver out. According to the Fire Department, the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which was totaled and was impounded by the police. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The driver, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken by the Glen Rock Ambulance Corps to Hackensack University Medical Center.
The intersection was closed off to traffic after the accident.
