Nearly 500 people showed up to the Glen Rock High School Gym Saturday night, Feb. 4, to see professional wrestling come to town in a fundraising event for the Glen Rock Junior Wrestling Association. And judging by the smiles and the applause of those in attendance, the event was a huge success.
“I thought the event was very successful and the crowd loved it,’’ said Allisan Emes, the treasurer of the junior wrestling association, who planned the event. “My favorite part of the event was seeing all the kids chasing the wrestlers around… It was a great time bringing the community together.’’
Emes said the event raised over $3,700 for the association, and the association “definitely’’ plans on doing this type of fundraiser again. The show ran a little over two hours, with several bouts featuring good guys and bad guys.
Mayor Bruce Packer was the star of the show, serving as a manager for former WWF star The Patriot, who wrestled in the final bout of the evening. Packer played a pivotal role, stealing a folding chair from The Patriot’s opponent, and then throwing the punch that knocked out his opponent’s manager in the finale of the show.
“This was the most fun I’ve had in quite a long time, and I’m so appreciative that I was given the opportunity to participate,’’ Packer told BTN.
The event was covered by FiOS TV, and also was filmed by Glen Rock TV, which you can see here.
