During the period between January 23^RD 2017 and January 29^TH 2017 members of the GRPD handled 210 calls for service, the highlights of which included:  

01-24-2017

2:39 AM –  During the course of investigating a motor vehicle accident at Maple Avenue and Cumberland Road P.O. Murray Yang arrested a 23-year-old Glen Rock man for Driving While Intoxicated.  The driver’s vehicle was impounded and he was transported to Police HQ for processing.  He was subsequently released to a sober family member in accordance with John’s Law.  Additional summonses were issued for Refusal to Consent to Breath Samples, Careless Driving, Failure to Keep Right, and Failure to Possess Valid Insurance Card.  An appearance in Glen Rock Municipal Court has been scheduled for January 31^st, 2017.

01-26-2017

6:14 PM –  A Cranford Road resident reported during that two of six packages delivered to his residence had been stolen and that three others had been opened and left at his door.  The missing packages contained an Ottoman valued at $107.51 and a phone battery valued at $12.99.  There was no one home at the residence when the deliveries were made, there are no known witnesses.

11:30 AM –  A Glen Avenue resident was alerted by her US Postal Service Letter Carrier that a change of address had been filed in her name.   The resident followed up with the post office and confirmed that an unknown person had filed the change of address without her knowledge.  The matter has been referred to the U.S. Postal Inspector’s Office for investigation.

01-27-2017

1:14 PM –  An Alan Avenue resident reported that a suspicious letter was left at the door of his residence.  The letter purported to be from an official entity requiring the resident to speak with an agent or face legal action.  The alleged official entity was not clearly identified.  The matter appears to be a scam and has been referred to the Detective Bureau for review.

2:32 PM –  The manager of Super Fresh on Lincoln Avenue reported that a shoplifter stole $65.85 worth of cheese and fled the store. Store employees had last seen the suspect, described as a 6’2” white male in his 30’s, thin and bald, when he ran into Hawthorne and jumped over a fence behind the bank across the street.  The man had already run off by the time police were notified.  Detectives are reviewing video surveillance from the store in an attempt to identify the suspect.

01-28-2017

2:34 PM – Sgt. Frank Riggio and Det. Mike Trover conducted a motor vehicle stop on Lincoln Avenue near Princeton Place after observing a driver, with a young child in his car, taking his eyes off of the road using his cell phone.  The driver who initially continued to drive for several blocks before slowing to stop, was observed making movement around the interior of the vehicle and not maintaining control of the vehicle.

Upon approaching the vehicle Sgt. Riggio observed a bag of suspected crack cocaine.  During questioning the driver, a 34-year-old West Milford man, told officers that he was ashamed of himself because he had his 16-month-old son with him.  He admitted that he had traveled to Paterson to buy crack cocaine and was returning home when he was stopped.

The man was placed under arrest and transported to Police HQ where he was processed and charged with Possession of Narcotics, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Possession of Narcotics Paraphernalia.  He was also found to have an active warrant out of the Hawthorne Municipal Court for which he posted $250 bail.  In accordance with New Jersey’s Criminal Justice Reform, the offenses committed did not constitute grounds for further detention.  The man was released pending an appearance in Superior Court Central Judicial Processing on February 10^th, 2017.

The NJ Division of Child Protection and Permanency (formerly D.Y.F.S.) was notified and responded to Police HQ concerning the welfare of the child.  The child’s mother was also contacted and responded.
