Press Release: Chief D. Ackermann
Within minutes of each other, two Glen Rock youths suffered non-life threatening injuries when they were struck by motor vehicles at two different locations. Neither were using nearby crosswalks.
At 3:26 PM officers were dispatched to Hamilton Avenue near Rock Road where a 13-year-old Glen Rock male had been struck by a motor vehicle driven by a 42-year-old Glen Rock woman. According to the driver, a witness and the youth himself, the young man crossed the street about 150 feet south of the crosswalk. He was struck by the vehicle when he stepped out from behind another vehicle which was stopped in traffic. A School Crossing Guard was on duty at nearby Rock Road and Hamilton Avenue at the time of the incident.
P.O. James Mc Gill was the investigating officer; no summonses were issued.
At 3:28 PM P.O. Murray Yang, assisted by Ridgewood officers, investigated a report of a 12-year-old Glen Rock female who was struck by a motor vehicle on Thurston Terrace. Investigation found that the girl had stepped out into traffic about 75 feet south of the crosswalk located at Thurston and Harristown. She was struck by a vehicle driven by 71-year-old Glen Rock man. No summonses were issued.
Both pedestrians were transported to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.
Pedestrians of all ages are reminded of the importance of using crosswalks and not to step into the street until there is a clearing in traffic.
