Banana Tree News had merged with Operation Gratitude to collect unused Halloween candy to send overseas to the troops.
This idea was in fact due to Yuri Bertram posting on Facebook “Is anyone collecting candy for charity this year?” Once BTN saw that post, they knew what they had to do. Set up a candy collecting event.
With the help of Paul from Mail & More, Gary Stevens of Stevens TAEKWONDO, Jim Morgan of The Curious Reader and Dee Stevens of The Grow-Cery, drop off locations were made and candy started rolling in.
At the end of the collecting, we collected over 700 LBS of candy for the troops through Operation Gratitude. This also included toothbrushes and toothpaste. Thank you Glen Rockers for making this successful!
To send this candy regular mail it would have cost over $1300.00. We reached out to local freight companies and found Global Transport Logistics Inc, based in Glen Rock NJ. They willingly donated shipping to Operation Gratitude in California. They were the guardian angels that made this event complete.
We also want to thank today’s elves: Mark McCullough and Kathryn Wansong in their help to get the candy on its way by packing up their cars and hauling it over to the warehouse for shipping.
